Hi Everyone! December 14, 2023
Ten days before Christmas Eve! How did that happen so fast? When I was a kid, it felt like Christmas would never get here. I so remember my mom telling me that the older I got the faster time would go. Along with literally everything my mom told me, she was right! I find this year that I’m thankful for the gifts I already have: my faith, my family, my friends and all of those things wrapped up into one package, my church family. I appreciate you all! Don’t forget the ornament exchange/Christmas party at James and Pastor Mary Beth’s this Saturday at 3:00. If you don’t have an ornament to bring, they will have a few extras on hand. The January-February Upper Room edition is available in the entryway. If you need help getting one, please let me know. We have several prayer requests this week. Carmen Kumagai had Covid! She is thankful that she’s the only one who got it and that her husband Dale, Marcy and her mom, Grace and are just fine. She is back to work but keep her in your prayers. John Sandquist has been down with what he thought was a blood clot in his leg. It turns out he has a cyst behind his knee. He reports that it is very painful. We all know that John has no time for such a thing! Please pray for a complete, quick recovery. A former student of mine and now a neighbor, Kaghen Cluff hit a deer on his way to Weiser last week and rolled his pickup. He had to be cut out of the pickup and taken to a Boise hospital but is home with his family. He will have a neck brace for a few weeks but the doctors expect a complete recovery. It’s such a blessing that he is OK. Please pray for a complete recovery for Kaghen. Lyna Wilkins’ sister-in-law is in need to prayer. She has been struggling with many health concerns and now she is in stage 4 kidney failure. Please keep Jan in your prayers. Karen Sagehorn is asking us to keep praying for her friends Linda and Jim. They have two sons, Kyle and Cory who have struggled so long with health problems and addiction. Jim and Linda are praying for peace, wisdom, hope and courage for themselves and for their sons. Please lift up the whole situation to God. My good friend Susan is asking us to pray for her. She has a bad shoulder that is keeping her off of her horses. I’m sure it’s keeping her from doing other things too but riding horses is number one! Please keep these folks on your prayer list: Hugh Homan, Irene Jeffries, Don Essinger, Lis Williamson, Jim Warzyn, Shannon Osborn, Olivia, Tory, Josh, and Bob Maynard. We are so blessed that we serve a God who comforts us! Let’s all be thankful for that. We hope that you are including our church in your Christmas plans. It seems like the right thing to do! We will have two services on Christmas Eve 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and a casual one on Christmas Day at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. We hope to see you this Sunday too! Blessings, Cris

Hi Everyone! December 7, 2023
The Winter Festival was a big success and it certainly wouldn’t have happened without so much help from everyone. A big thank you goes to Glenora Wright for organizing the whole event! She had a lot of behind the scenes help from her daughter Tami and from Lisa Parsons Bisbee. A big thank you to them! The church made over $3,500 and some money will trickle in. All the items left over from the country store are still available and will be on the tables at least until Sunday. Come by and shop whenever the church is open. Our teenagers Kathryn, Lizzy and Caleb ran the bingo game and did such a great job. We know they are busy, and we appreciate them very much. The United Methodist Men will have their monthly breakfast meeting this Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Erika’s Kitchen in Payette. All men are invited to attend. Don’t forget about the free Liberty Quartet concert at the Nazarene Church in Payette this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. They will collect a love offering. James and Pastor Mary Beth are having a Christmas party and ornament exchange on Saturday, December 16th at 3:00 p.m. at their home. The only thing you need to bring is an ornament to exchange. It will be fun! We have some praises this week. Anne DeBord’s grandson Kian and the Parson’s grandson Corbin are graduating from the University of Idaho (go Vandals!) this Saturday. Congrats to Kian and Corbin! Keep both families in your prayers as they travel north. Our prayers go out to the family of Larry Jeffries this week. Larry passed away last Saturday. His family surrounded him as he passed peacefully. Larry was an important part of PUMC. I served on the Trustee Committee with him for many years and along with Ken Frazier, they knew every tiny detail about our church and how to fix it. If they couldn’t find a part, they’d make it. Please keep Irene and the whole family in your prayers. The family won’t be having a funeral at this time. Dalyce Knight asks us to pray for the Householder family. They are mourning the loss of her cousin’s wife Dagmar. Keep her whole family in your prayers. Continue to pray for Don Essinger, Lis Williamson, Irene Jeffries, Jim Warzyn, Shannon Osborn, Olivia Bybee, Hugh Homan, Tory, Josh and Bob Maynard. Our Christmas schedule looks like this: Christmas Eve 11:00 am and 6:00 pm and Christmas Day 11:00 am in the chapel. Join us for all if you can. The dollar offering this Sunday will be donated to Rose Advocates. They are a confidential network offering resources to abused children & adults since 1988.They strive to help each person begin a safe life for themselves & their families. Have a great rest of the week and we hope to see you on Sunday. Remember that Grace is indiscriminate and that God cherishes each one of us always. Blessings, Cris PS. Our praise songs this week are Prepare the Way and Your Peace Will Make Us One. Click on the blue links to listen in. Hi Everyone! November 30, 2023
The big news this week is the Winter Festival! Lots of folks have been working really hard on this event. It always shows how well we work together and I love that! If you aren’t able to volunteer to help, here’s something you can do. Invite people to come eat, see the nativity scenes, shop, buy raffle tickets, play bingo and bid on the silent auction items. Please come with them! We decorated the church last Sunday and it looks so beautiful! Lots of people stayed and helped so it went up pretty fast. If you are bringing baked goods to the Winter Festival, please get them to the church before 5 p.m. on Friday. The church will be open all afternoon. Call me on my cell if you want to make sure the church is unlocked. So that you can make plans, our Christmas service schedule looks like this: Since Christmas Eve is on Sunday this year, we will have our regular service at 11:00 a.m. and our candlelight service at 6:00 p.m. Then on Christmas morning, a Monday, we will have a short Christmas Day service at 11:00 a.m. This one will be very casual. In fact, wear your pajamas if you want! I know our pastor will! Here's some good news… our very own Sharon Wada has been chosen as the Grand Marshall for the Winter Wonderland Parade in Ontario this year! That’s quite an honor. Congrats Sharon! The good news for Carmen’s cousin Tory is that he was able to go home recently and will recover in his own home. We will continue to pray for Tory. He and his wife appreciate our prayers. Monday Morning Coffee with the Pastor will resume this coming Monday at Bordertown Coffee in Gayway Junction from 9-12. Go visit with our pastor and she’ll even buy your coffee! I received an email today from the Sage District letting us know that Don Essinger from Fruitland UMC just received a cancer diagnosis. Please keep Don and Letha and their family in your prayers. Our bishop, Cedrick Bridgeforth’s mother, Doris passed away recently. Please keep our bishop and his family in your prayers. We have some prayer requests. Please keep these folks on your prayer list: Lis Williamson, Debra Street, the Stephan Family, Jim Warzyn, Shannon Osborn, Olivia Bybee, Josh, Bob Maynard, and Larry and Irene Jeffries. We hope to see everyone at church this December. Let’s fill up the pews! I’ll see you at the Winter Festival this Friday! We hope to see you on Friday and Sunday! See you soon. Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! November 22, 2023
I’m so proud of us! We donated a little over $450 to help Caleb Smith buy a brand-new custom-made Baritone Saxophone! As always, we made a difference! I received word this morning that the Payette Nazarene Church will be having a concert on Saturday, December 9th at 6:00 p.m. The Liberty Quartet will be performing that evening. There is no admission fee but a free will offering will be taken. I put a poster on the bulletin with more information. It should be great! I delivered 42 twenty-five-dollar Albertsons Gift Cards to Wicap last week. They will be giving them to deserving folks to help them make ends meet which is always difficult this time of year. Thanks for always stepping up to help our community. Glenora has collected all the silent auction items for the Winter Festival. This year instead of posting the bids, they will be written on cards and put inside an envelope and the highest bid will win. This will prevent people being polite and not outbidding their friends! Here is a list of the items: 1 lb. packages of hamburger from Glenora, beauty box, kids’ books, plasma globe, mini fridge/wine cooler, lottery ticket wreath, Pyrex food storage, Dewalt drill kit, 12 days of jelly, knives, restaurant gift cards, Trader Joe’s treats, and Christmas decorations. I’m sure you can see some must haves from that list! Make sure you come to the festival and take some of these great items home with you. Please bring your nativity scenes to church ASAP. They will be put up early next week. Bring them anytime the church is open or call me and we can make arrangements to get them here. Our nativity tour is a special part of the Winter Festival so let’s get crackin’. Curt and Carol Stephan were in church on Sunday with the sad news that Jean passed away on Saturday. Curt told me that she was doing her normal activities up until just a little bit before she passed away. Jean was a special part of PUMC and she will be missed. Curt also mentioned that if someone is interested in Jean’s prized organ, please let him know. I have his contact information. Services will be through Shaffer Jensen and are pending. I’ll let you know when I have more information. Please keep all of Jean’s family in your prayers. Continue to pray for the Hood’s grandson Josh. He started chemo recently but was able to get married and to on his honeymoon to Hawaii first. That’s a blessing! Debra Street is secretary at Fruitland UMC. Her husband Ed passed away just a couple of weeks after his diagnosis of cancer. Please keep Debra and her family in your prayers. Please keep praying for Olivia Bybee, Lis Williamson, Shannon Osborn, Hugh Homan, Tory, Jim Warzyn and Larry and Irene Jeffries. I’m copying a letter that Teresa Beer wrote to keep us informed about the church’s finances. If you have questions after reading it, please talk to someone on the Finance Committee. She read this letter in church on Sunday. Good morning, I’m Teresa Beer, the co-chair of the Finance Committee. I’m here to give you an update on the finances of the church. Last spring, I came to you to ask for more in the way of tithing. Our budget indicated that we needed more income in order to meet our obligations. I ask and you responded. Our monthly giving has increased and for that we are grateful. Over the past couple of months, the finance committee has been taking an even harder look at our budget, income, expenses and anticipated increased expenses going forward. The conference dictates how much we pay for our pastors and what the increases from year to year look like. We took a big hit this year with and increase for Pastor Mary Beth and we are looking at another hit next year. As we look at the numbers, the word “dire” came up in conversation several times. It’s not a great word or a great place to be. Projecting through 2024, we find that all of our reserves will be expended in about ten months. At that point we will not be able to pay all of our bills monthly. I’m not trying to scare you our wrangle more giving out of you, just to let you know the situation at hand. We are looking into some other ways to supplement our budget, such as a conference grant and to lower our expenses through reducing our full-time pastor down to ¾ or even ½ time. These are not easy decisions we have to make and wanted to everyone informed. We ask that you pray about the situation. We are a very blessed congregation and somehow, we will get through this. We are small but we are mighty. If you have questions, please get in touch with any of the Finance Committee members and we will do our best of answer them. God Bless you all! Teresa Ron and I will go the airport on Friday to retrieve Pastor Mary Beth and James. They will be in church on Sunday. Hopefully they had a wonderful vacation in sunny Arizona. I don’t want any whining from them about the hot weather! One last thing! We received a gold star from Etha, our Sage District Administrator for submitting our Charge Conference reports and minutes quickly this year. She sent this message: May God bless your ministry in your community over the next year. Etha is the best and we appreciate her. We hope to see you in church on Sunday! Please plan to stay and help decorate the church. We will also be moving tables for the Winter Festival. Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! November 16, 2023
I’ll start with some good news this week. Our own Caleb Smith was selected as First Chair in the State Honors Band playing the baritone saxophone! It’s quite an honor for Caleb and his family. I’m sure he has worked hard. He is fundraising to buy a new sax which is quite expensive so we will put the blessing pitcher out for one more week to help him out. If you’d like to help but can’t get to church, please contact me and we’ll work something out. Congrats Caleb! More good news. Our Boy Scouts participated in Scouting for Food last weekend and brought in enough food for 50 food boxes to be given away at the Nazarene Church. They also collected more than $900 to buy food. Good job Scouts! Our annual Winter Festival will be on Friday, December 1st. That is a little more than 2 weeks away. If you haven’t signed up to help, please contact Glenora as soon as you can. Here’s something that everyone can do to help. We need baked goods for our bakery. If you can bake cookies, a cake, a pie or anything else yummy please plan on it. We will not be having a cake walk this year so turn that energy into something else! If you have items that we can sell in the country store at Winter Festival we’d love to have them. We will sell new and almost new items along with Christmas decorations that you’d like to donate. You can drop them off at the church anytime the doors are open. We had our annual Charge Conference last Monday evening. It was successful and went very smoothly. We all make a good team! Danny Crego has some good news. He is officially a certified candidate for ministry. FINALLY! Danny has worked hard for this and Annie deserves a lot of credit for supporting him through his journey. Congrats from PUMC Danny! Please plan to come to church on November 26th and stay to help decorate the church for Christmas. We will also be moving tables into place for the Winter Festival so will need extra help. Many hands make light work (Edna Rice 😊) We have some prayer requests this week. My sister’s husband Bill passed away on Tuesday afternoon. Please keep Carolyn, her kids and grandkids in your prayers. Carolyn appreciated and loved our prayers during Bill’s struggles. Lyna is asking for prayers for Dean Westoff from Montana. We prayed for him last winter when he received a heart transplant. His body is rejecting the new heart. Keep he and his wife Sandra in your prayers. Please keep the following folks on your prayer list: Larry Jeffries, Hugh Homan, Bob Maynard, the Peterson Family in Arizona, Olivia Bybee, Jim Warzyn, Shannon Osborn, Lis Williamson, Carmen’s cousin Tory, and the Hood’s grandson Josh. Always pray for peace. We sure need it. James and Pastor Mary Beth have safely arrived in Arizona. We wish them a nice vacation and a safe return to us. Danny Crego will step in this Sunday and take care of us. As our pastor said last week, “God’s law is love.” Take care of one another. Blessings, Cris PS. Since next week is Thanksgiving week, I’ll be in the office Monday through Wednesday. Hi Everyone!
October 26, 2023 I hope you plan to bring your car and candy to our Trunk or Treat event on Halloween from 5:00-6:30! Decorate your car and wear a costume if you want but it certainly isn’t necessary. If you run out of candy, no worries, we have lots! It will be lots of fun. On Sunday, we are celebrating All Saints Day, a holiday in the church calendar when we remember the saints who have gone on before us. It’s not too late to submit the names of loved ones who have passed away so they can be mentioned in the service. Call the office or write the names down on Sunday before church. The UMM will be treating us to a chili and baked potato lunch on Sunday, November 12th right after church. Save the date and plan to come! Make sure to put December 1st on your calendar. It’s the date for our Winter Festival. As Glenora said last Sunday, it takes all of us to make it work. Sign up sheets will be available soon. Be thinking about what you can do to help. We don’t have a volunteer to organize Operation Christmas Child this year. If you’d like to build a shoebox, we can find a way to get it to the right place or you can build one on line for $25. Let me know if you need help with that. This Sunday will be the last day to contribute to a tip for our lawn guy Mahlon. The jar is on the table in the fellowship hall. Our praise songs for Sunday will be Cannons and All Who Are Thirsty. Click on the blue links and listen before Sunday if you can. We have some prayer requests this week. We heard from Catherine Fry that Russ Busey who was the secretary at PUMC had a stroke and is in the hospital. He lives in Eugene and plans to move into senior housing when he is released. Keep Russ in your prayers. Catherine is working on getting an address for us. Things are looking up for Carmen’s cousin Tory. He had successful surgery and now is able to stand! Keep praying for Tory. Kathryn Gordon asks us to pray baby Charlie who will be having heart surgery on December 5th. She is the great granddaughter of a childhood friend of Kathryn’s. My sister’s husband Bill will be going into hospice care very soon. He has an untreatable tumor in his lung. Please pray for Bill, my sister Carolyn and their kids Rick and Diane. Annie Crego’s mom Katie had knee replacement surgery last week. Pray for a quick, complete recovery. Keep these folks on your prayer list: Larry Jeffries, Jim Warzyn, Bob Maynard, Josh, Darby, Lis Williamson, Shannon Osborn, Olivia Bybee, Hugh Homan and the Taylors who are friends of the Boesch’s. Have a great rest of the week and we hope to see you on Sunday. Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! October 19, 2023
I have the best news! Teresa Beer is officially a grandma as of Wednesday evening. Wesley Kai Waynetska was born at 5:13 p.m. and weighs 7lbs 10oz. Teresa reports that he is perfect! I have seen pictures and I totally agree. Congrats to his parents Austin and Jalani and of course Teresa! I bought stamps at Costco and they are HOLIDAY stamps. It’s coming folks! The new November/December issue of The Upper Room is available in the entryway. The Ad Board met this week and I’ll update you about some highlights. Remember everyone is invited to these meetings. Our Winter Festival will be on Friday, December 1st this year. We are trying to avoid the festivities put on by the city on Saturday the 2nd. We desperately need a new nativity team to display all of our beautiful treasures. If you are willing to serve in this way, please call the office or tell Glenora. Our festival will still feature an Italian Style dinner, nativity tour, cake walk (for Shane), a craft for kids, baked goods, raffle baskets, silent auction items and more. Save the date and please plan to help. In the finance report we learned that with us switching from a ¼ time pastor to a full-time pastor is catching up with us financially. We brainstormed some ways to bring in more money so if you have ideas, please share them with someone on the Ad Board. Teresa Beer, one of our finance chairs will share information with the congregation in November. Our men’s group worked hard last Saturday on clearing the gravel from the playground. That small square had so much gravel! We will be working on this project again so if you have muscles and a shovel, please help us out. Thanks to everyone who helped and who will help in the future. The Boesches will host a Halloween Party on Saturday, October 28th at 5:00 p.m. Costumes are welcome but not required. Let’s make a good PUMC showing! John Sandquist asked me to let you know that he and his friend Dayton are barbecuing on October 23rd. All of the regular items are available. John asks that you sign up on the sheet at church so they know what to buy. You can also call John at 208-739-6497. If you haven’t had John’s BBQ, you should! Please plan to help us out with Trunk or Treat on Halloween from 5:00-6:30. Bring your trunk and some candy and make kids happy. Please let us know if you plan to come. Because of our congregation’s generosity, we have enough candy to keep our event going the whole 90 minutes! As always, thank you. Thanks to everyone who helped with Gary Williamson’s funeral. People stepped up to help and the family appreciated it. A big thank you to Dianne’s friend Marcia Gray who has helped us many times. I have a praise to share with you. Sharon and Ed Parsons celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last week. They must have married very young! Congrats Parsons! I have several prayer requests so I will list them this week. · I received word that Larry Jeffries is not doing well. He and Irene asked for our prayers. · Darby, Tony Irwin’s relative is unable to complete his treatment. · Ron Collingwood’s granddaughter in Libby, Montana passed away last week. · Butch, Sid Fry’s nephew has lung cancer and has started chemo. · Randy Wright, Catherine Fry’s brother is having a medical procedure and Catherine would appreciate prayers. · Bob Maynard has started chemo treatments and is struggling. · My sister Carolyn and her husband Bill both have rebound Covid. Bill has been hospitalized again. · Annie’s mom will have knee surgery very soon. · Bonnie Hall is recovering from knee replacement and is doing well. · Keep praying for Selby Wright and her kids. · My friend Susan asked us to pray for her because of complicated family issues. · James and Pastor Mary Beth ask for prayers for Faith and Grant. They have complicated family issues as well. · Please keep the family and friends of Daniella Perez whose life was tragically cut short last week in Ontario. · Let’s keep praying for peace in the Middle East and in Ukraine and for the families directly and indirectly impacted by these conflicts. · Pray that our leaders come together for the good of everyone and do the job that we elected them to do. · Pray for safe travels for Tony and Roxanne who have headed south for the winter. Bring them back safely to us! · Lyna asks for prayer for Margaret Fosberg who is starting chemo therapy to fight breast cancer. That’s a big prayer list but we all know that prayer works. This is the time of year that I always ask for help in thanking Mahlon, our yard guy for his hard work and extra attention. No church grounds look better than ours. If you’d like to help with sending him a tip, please put it in the jar on one of the next two Sundays. Cash works the best. He doesn’t expect this tip but will sure appreciate it. If you’d like to write him a note, I will get it to him. Enjoy these last few beautiful, perfect days of weather while they last. They are a gift. Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! October 12, 2023

You are loved and appreciated. We hope to see you on Sunday to hear the sermon from Rev. Walters. Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! October 5, 2023
Happy October to you all. October has always been one of my favorite months because the long hot days are gone and I love jacket weather. If you missed church on Sunday, you missed a good one. We had 13 dogs at our Blessing of the Pets service and it was SO great. We ended up having the service in the fellowship hall because of the rain and once the service started, the dogs all settled in and got quiet. Our pastor blessed each pet and family and it was very meaningful. Great idea Pastor Mary Beth! The Finance Committee will meet on Tuesday, October 10th at noon. The Dollar Offering collected this Sunday will be given to Rose Advocates. ROSE Advocates, Inc. is a confidential network offering resources to abused children & adults since 1988. We have some praises this week. Shane Wright’s Special Olympics golf team won the 3rd place medal last week at Eagle Hills Golf Course in Eagle. If you would pray for their whole family, I’d sure appreciate it. From the prayer chain Karen Sagehorn asked us to pray for her friend Linda and her husband. Their son is an addict and has been abusive to them. They have changed the locks in their doors and have chosen to not let him return to their home. Karen asks for God’s strength to follow through on these choices for them and for their other son Kyle who has a terminal diagnosis. He supports his parents with their decision. Continue to pray for Carmen’s cousin Tory, Olivia Bybee, Teresa’s grandson, Hugh Homan, Shannon Osborn, and Glenora. Have a great rest of the week and we hope to see you on Sunday! Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! September 28, 2023

We were able to help my sister Carolyn with some tasks that sure needed to be done, spent some time with my very first childhood friend and helped Tess out with her dogs. I’m sorry to tell you that we have had a tragedy in our valley this week. Glenora’s granddaughter Selby lost her husband Johnny Bezates in a car accident. Please pray for his whole family including his almost 3-year-old daughter Gray Lee and his 1-year-old son Gus. Please keep them on your prayer list. Glenora has been fighting pleurisy for a couple of weeks and is winning but she will be healing for several weeks. Pleurisy is an inflammation of the membranes that surround the lungs and line the chest cavity. It is very painful I’m told but as we all know, Glenora is tough! Please pray for a complete, quick recovery. Bonnie Hall will be having total knee replacement surgery on Thursday, October 5th. Please keep Bonnie in your prayers as well as Mike who will be taking good care of her. Sherry and Rodger Hood’s grandson Josh is getting married very soon and just learned that he has Hodgkin Lymphoma. Please pray for Josh, his fiancé Kendra and his whole family as he battles this disease. From the prayer chain we have been asked to pray for Mari who has spinal stenosis that leaves her arms numb and has been a real challenge. Pray for Kenny who fell and broke his neck. He will have surgery sometime in October that could leave him paralyzed. Please pray for calming his fears, for patience and for wisdom for his medical team. Keep the following on your prayer list: Jim Warzyn, Hugh Homan, Gary and Lis Williamson, Olivia Bybee, Steve Simonson, Jan, Laurie, Tory, Shannon Osborn, and Mary Boesch. Remember that this Sunday we are celebrating the Feast of St. Francis and our pets will be blessed. That means bring them to church with you for an outdoor service in the parking lot. If you can’t bring your pet, don’t worry, the pastor will bless the pets that aren’t able to attend. We hope to see you at church! Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! September 20, 2023
Ron and I will be going to Utah on Wednesday afternoon for a few days to help out our daughter Tess and my sister Carolyn. I won’t be in the office on Thursday but our pastor will be here. We’ll be sorry to miss the neighborhood carnival, the invite someone new to church Sunday and most of all the potluck! Danny will be missing church here at PUMC for two Sundays and Lyna Wilkins has stepped up to teach the Sunday School class on September 24th but Sunday school will be canceled on October 1st. Danny is very pleased with the turnout for Sunday School this season. It’s never too late to join! PUMC needs someone to chair the Operation Christmas Child program this year. If you are willing to be in charge of this wonderful program, please let me know. There are lots of materials available to get you started. I hope you have noticed that the area just east of the church has been cleaned out! It was full of weeds and a dangerous play structure. The trustees and the UMM will work together to plant grass in that space and make it look a lot better. We will be working on this project on Saturday, October 14th right after the UMM breakfast meeting. That should be around 10:30. We’d love to have your help if that sounds like something you could do! Bring your own shovel! If have any materials to help with this project, we’ll take them. (grass seed, rainbird sprinklers, funny pipe etc.) Sunday, October 1st we will be celebrating the Feast of St. Francis by having an outdoor service and blessing our pets! Bring your pets to church! Our dog Champ will love this. He thinks every human was put on Earth to pet him. If you don’t think it’s wise to bring your pet to church there will be a blessing given for pets that were left home. Save the date of Saturday, October 28th. The Boesch’s are inviting us to a Halloween Party. I received a nice note from Dennis Froeming this week. He and his wife Sharon live in Boise and are doing well. They attend a Presbyterian and he has recently become an Deacon. It was good hearing from him! We have some prayer requests this week: Please keep Hugh Homan and the Williamsons in your prayers. Lis and Gary have been in touch and send their love. Gary is at peace. Carmen Kumagai’s cousin Tory was hurt at work and has had surgery and will face more in the future. He is off the ventilator and is smiling. Please keep him on your prayer list for a bit. My friend Susan lost her mother this week. Please keep Susan and her siblings in your prayers as they navigate without their mom. Another friend of mine, Luann asked us to pray for her brand-new grandnephew Miles. He was born just under 2 pounds. He will need prayers for a while. Danny asks us to pray for his sister-in-law Ellie. She has lost her place to live and is looking for something affordable. I received word from Jean Hershey this week that they are all feeling better and when I asked about Terry, she said he is half way through his treatments and is well enough to run a 10K with Mark and his son Evan on the 23rd. Go Hersheys! Please keep these folks on your prayer list: Shannon Osborn, Mary Boesch, Olivia Bybee, Steve Simonson, Laurie, Jim Warzyn and Teresa’s soon to be born grandson. While We Sing is our new praise song this week. Please click on the link and listen in. Have a great rest of your week. Remember to invite someone new to church this week and bring something delicious to the potluck! Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! September 14, 2023
Our Neighborhood Carnival is happening in just over one week! We want to introduce ourselves to the neighborhood so let’s make a good showing! Please sign up to help when you are at the church or call me and I will put you on the list. Please arrive by 10:30 on Saturday, September 23rd. We will need some canopies for that day. If you have a canopy that we can use please drop it off by Thursday. Make sure your name is on it! If you have a lawn game to share, please bring it too! The Ad Board and Trustees will meet on Monday, September 18th. The Trustee meeting begins at 6:15 with the Ad Board following at 7pm. Everyone is invited to attend these meetings. Next week I will be working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Ron and I are going to Utah to help our daughter Tess out for a few days. Pastor Mary Beth will be in the office on Thursday. I’m reminding you that when you write a check to the church don’t just put PUMC. Our credit union isn’t accepting those. Instead, write Payette United Methodist Church or Payette Methodist Church. Sunday, September 24th is Invite Someone New to Church Sunday. We will have a potluck after church that day. Start planning something delicious to share and make a plan to invite someone new. If we are going to grow, it’s going to take effort from all of us. We have some prayer requests this week. Please keep Lis and Gary Williamson and their family in your prayers. Lyna Wilkins has a praise and a concern this week. She had a wonderful time visiting her daughter Heidi and her family but she injured her foot while she was there. Keep her in your prayers. Tony Irwin’s daughter’s stepson Darby has terminal cancer and isn’t able to take anymore treatments. Please pray for Darby and his family. Please pray for Carmen’s cousin Tory. He was injured at work. He had an 8-hour long surgery Wednesday night to remove disks in his neck and replace the disks with hardware. He has lots of infection. In the future he will need shoulder surgery. Keep Tory, his mom Ruth and his wife Ranee in your prayers. I just learned that Mark and Jean Hershey have Covid along with Lyn and Jeanie. They camped together during the Labor Day holiday. Jean reports that they are feeling better. Honestly, I’m SO tired of Covid! Karen Sagehorn’s niece Kathleen is having tests for breast cancer and Kathleen’s aunt is very ill and is frustrated that the tests aren’t revealing the answers. I just received word that Kathleen got good news and is in the clear. All those involved are grateful that we have prayed for them. Teresa’s stepdad Larry’s funeral will be on Monday. Please keep Teresa’s mom Helen, Larry’s kids and Teresa and her brothers in your prayers. Continue to pray for: Hugh Homan, the Hood’s relative, Laurie, Terry Hershey, Steve Simonson, Olivia Bybee, Shannon Osborn, Jim Warzyn, Mary Boesch and Teresa’s grandson. This is a one-day workshop designed to equip faith community leaders to minister to those impacted by suicide. This includes the creation of worship resource, training congregation members in suicide awareness and basic conversation skills, and the how to extend the invitation to those who have been suicidal in the past to share their stories. This workshop engages the question of how to cultivate a soul-safe culture within your congregation. I will be attending it, and if you are interested in going, too, you can register by clicking on this blue link. The cost is $50 and lunch is provided. If you sign up, we can carpool to and from. Please keep Kyle and his mom, Linda in your prayers as they go through this challenging journey. Keep the Williamsons in your prayers along with their children and grandchildren. We will be singing one new song this week, Wake Up. Please click on the blue link, listen and sing along. It will help on Sunday. Enjoy and be thankful for our nice warm days and cool nights! It doesn’t get any better than this. We hope to see you on Sunday. Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! August 31, 2023
I am reminded this week of how blessed I am to live in Idaho where we don’t have hurricanes! The people in Florida and the south are struggling and our weather is just about perfect. Disaster relief is spread thin between Hawaii and Florida. Keep all those affected in your prayers. Last Sunday we were privileged to have Kathryn Tompkins and Lizzy Briggs speak about their experiences and what they learned at Young Life Camp. It’s very clear that they are learning the right things! Good job girls! When Roxanne went to the credit union this week with the deposit, they almost rejected a few checks! They no longer will allow us to write PUMC on our checks. We will have to write out Payette United Methodist Church on the to line. Speaking of PUMC, we were featured on the GNW Area Communications last week. They interviewed Pastor Mary Beth and I a couple of weeks ago for the story. Click on the blue link and read the story. It makes us sound great and very smart! Thanks for being the best congregation on the planet! There will be no Monday Morning Coffee With the Pastor this week. It will resume on September 11th. On Sunday, Carmen and Marcy let us know that Grace Hammon just celebrated her 93rd birthday. Happy Birthday Grace! Please sign up to help with our Neighborhood Carnival on Saturday, September 23rd. Find the clipboard on Sunday or call the office and I’ll sign you up. Invite someone new to church on Sunday, September 24th. Let’s find some folks that need a church family and need to hear the good news! We will have a potluck afterward. Love INC is hosting a fundraiser on Thursday, September 28th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Ontario Calvary Chapel. It will feature a dessert bar, live music, raffle, silent auction and special speaker, Sting Ray Robb, a local kid who won the 2020 Indy Pro 2000 and Vice Champion in the 2022 Indy Lights. You can buy tickets by calling 541-216-6116 or get more info at www.loveincoreida.org. We have prayer requests this week. Please continue to pray for Gary and Lis Williamson and their family. The Hood’s relative, Lori who was burned badly in the fires on Maui has taken a turn for the worse and really needs our prayers right now. Ron’s brother Jim had a PET scan last week and learned that the cancer has spread. He is consulting with his doctors to see what his new plan is. Keep Jim and the whole Warzyn family in your prayers please. Karen Sagehorn is asking for prayers for a friend of her neighbor, Kenny who fell and is injured. He may need surgery and would like prayers for wisdom for his medical team. Ron is recovering nicely from his knee replacement surgery. He is walking with a cane now and getting around pretty well. Ron’s surgery went well and I am in the office this week. We left Payette at 7:15 a.m. Monday morning and returned at 7:15 p.m. with a new knee. Our daughter Tess said, “What a time to be alive!” The technology has come a long way and we are grateful for it. Ron is doing well and should heal quickly. Thanks for your prayers. He’s a better patient than I am a nurse so we’ll see how this goes. The remainder of the funds for the new entry ramp came in this week! So that project is finished. As always, thanks to everyone for your generosity. Danny will be teaching a new Sunday School class starting Sunday, September 10th at 9:45. He will be teaching a series first about Christian beliefs and later on Methodist beliefs. It will be a great class and if you have been thinking about attending Sunday School this will be a great opportunity. Just show up on the 10th! The Tuesday Morning Bible Study will be starting a new curriculum next Tuesday. The bible study is every Tuesday morning from 10:00-11:45 and you are welcome to join. The beginning of the study focuses on prayer and then they move on to the study. This is a great opportunity to join this great group. Just show up any Tuesday! We will be having another Invite Someone New to Church Sunday on Sunday, September 24th which is the day after our Neighborhood Carnival. Start thinking about who you can invite to come to church with you. We will be having a potluck lunch. I will remind you about this. This Sunday we will have a treat! Kathryn Tompkins and Lizzy Briggs will be speaking about their experiences at Young Life Camp this summer. We look forward to hearing from Kathryn and Lizzy! Ron’s great nephew Brandon who was in an industrial accident a little over a year ago had surgery to repair his left hand this week. Continue to pray for Hugh Homan, Macy Steckley, Teresa’s stepdad and grandson, Shannon Osborn, Terry Hershey, Olivia Bybee and Steve Simonson. We hope to see you on Sunday and who knows, there might be garden goodies to take home. That’s a bonus! Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! August 17, 2023
I absolutely predicted this hot spell. It happens every year because school has started! There is nothing like a sweaty kid dressed in his brand-new flannel shirt and jeans to start the school year! I’m sure everyone involved is thankful for air conditioning in the buildings. Remember to keep the students and staff in your prayers all year long. The entrance ramp is finished and it’s beautiful! We will be able to walk on it starting Saturday afternoon. It is so much safer for us! If you would still like to contribute to this project, the blessing pitcher will be out for two more Sundays. We are still a couple of hundred dollars short. We are still using the entrance just east of the main one for the next few days. The same key fits the lock. To double check that the church is disarmed, call or text Mary Beth, James or me and we can use our phones to check and disarm it. Just a couple of more days and we’ll be done with this project. Save the date of Saturday, September 23rd for our 2nd annual Neighborhood Carnival. It will be from 11-1 this year and we will need lots of help. The September/October issue of the Upper Room is available in the entryway. If you need help getting one, please let me know and we’ll figure it out. The church received a couple of rogue emails from Pastor Mary Beth that are impersonating her. If you get an email from her from anything except [email protected] please don’t open it. The Ad Board will meet on Monday, August 21st at 7pm. The Trustees will not meet this month. Everyone is invited to attend this meeting. Hugh and Doris Homan are settling in to their new home at Edgewood in Fruitland. Their address is 1255 N. Allen Ave. Apt. 156 Fruitland, ID 83619. I heard that they would love visitors! We have a praise this week! Roxanne Collingwood/Irwin has a new great granddaughter, Sybil Fay Saracho. Congrats to everyone! We have some prayer requests this week. Please say an extra prayer for Gary and Lis Williamson at this time. Please pray for the folks in Maui. They have been devastated by wildfires. Sheri Hood’s brother’s sister-in-law Lori was trapped in the fire and suffered burns over 60% of her body. She has been airlifted to Oahu in critical condition. She will need our prayers for a long time. Ron will have knee replacement surgery this coming Monday, the 21st. Pray for quick healing for him. I’m not sure what my office schedule will be like next week depending on how he is doing. Please call before you come to the church during the week. Most likely Pastor Mary Beth will be around if I’m not but please call the church number. 208-642-2475 Please keep these folks on your prayer list: Jean Pollock, Macy Steckley, Hugh Homan, the Jeffries, Shannon Osborn, Jim Moy, Steve Simonson, Anne DeBord, Mike’s brothers Jerry and Jay, Ron’s brothers Jerry and Jim, Mary Boesch, Olivia Bybee, Terry Hershey, Teresa’s stepdad and grandson and Jan Bolin. We had a very nice church service last week with our visitors from Vale UMC. We were reminded of this by our pastor: We are all equally beloved! Isn’t that the best news ever? Have a great rest of your week and we hope to see you on Sunday. Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! August 10, 2023
The School Supply Fair was a roaring success and I mean roaring in every way! Things were hectic here for the first hour with people lined up on the sidewalk waiting for the event to start. We prepared at least 147 students with the supplies they will need to start a successful school year. In addition, we served lunch to the families of those students, gave them books to read, had clothing available and for the first time had sporting equipment available because of Landon Ruth’s senior project. I’m so proud of all the support it took to make this event happen. We asked for financial support and volunteers and both happened. A big thank you goes to everyone for loving our community! The entrance ramp construction starts on Monday, August 14th. The area will be blocked off with construction tape. We will be using the next door down next week until Sunday. The project will be finished by then. If you need the building disarmed, please contact James, Pastor Mary Beth or me because we can disarm the church with our phones. That entrance is way too far from the key pad to disarm it in time. The United Methodist Men will meet on Saturday, August 12th at 9:00 a.m. for their monthly breakfast meeting at Erika’s Kitchen in Payette. All men are invited and encourage to attend. Payette had a tragedy this week. On Tuesday, Jaydyn Ramos was in a terrible train vs. car accident on Washoe Road and lost her life. She should be starting her senior year of high school in a few days. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. Pray also for the students and teachers beginning a brand-new school year in the next few days. I remember Pastor Bill Hays saying every time he passed by a school, he said a prayer for all those inside. I love that idea! Pray for the students and staff on the school bus that overturned on Hwy. 55 last week. Danny has applied for a job at the prison and has an interview on August 16th at 8:00 a.m. Please say a special prayer for Danny. He really wants this job! Ron had an appointment with his orthopedic surgeon on Tuesday about his knee pain. He will have total knee replacement on Monday, August 21st. This was pretty shocking news since we both thought there would be an easier solution to fix his knee. Keep Ron in your prayers. We have some prayer requests that were on the prayer chain: Piper and her husband both have Covid.( Piper is a friend of ours who we first met at Fit and Fall Proof.) Colleen, a neighbor of Kathryn Gordon’s is having serious vision problems, John McEwen a friend of Jean Pollock is recovering from open heart surgery, Karen Sagehorn’s friend and neighbor Mari is being evaluated for spinal stenosis and Rev. Curtis from Benton UMC is recovering from eye surgery. (A last-minute update on Mari; she will have physical therapy and pain management for her spine problems. She thanks us for our prayers.) Please keep praying for Jean Pollock and Macy Steckley for complete healing. Macy was in church on Sunday and Bible Study on Tuesday. It was so great to see her where she belongs! Keep the folks on Maui in your prayers. Wildfires have destroyed so much! Continue to pray for Terry Hershey, Hugh Homan, Olivia Bybee, Teresa’s stepdad Larry, Steve Simonson, Anne DeBord, Jerry and Jay Hall, Jerry and Jim Warzyn, the Williamsons, Shannon Osborn, Mary Boesch and Teresa’s grandson. The praise songs this week will be Your Love Never Fails and Beautiful Things. Click on the blue links to listen in and sing along. We have sung these both before so they will sound familiar! The Ice Cream Truck will run on Thursday for the last time before school starts. It has been a big success this summer and we sure enjoy doing it. We did get stopped by the police last week but that went really well. We even offered the officer ice cream! I hope you are fixing something delicious for the potluck on Sunday. We hope to see you here! Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! August 3, 2023
Wow! Things were hoppin’ at the church on Tuesday. We had Lifeline Screening, the Fit and Fall Proof exercise group, the contractor for the new front ramp, Bible Study, AA, and the Community Closet folks here all at the same time. I absolutely loved it! PUMC is essential in our area! We are so close to being ready for our School Supply Fair on Saturday. A lot of work has been happening behind the scenes to host such a big event. Thank you to Teresa Beer and her team for making it all work. James and Pastor Mary Beth have been involved in every step and that is much appreciated. For those of you helping, please arrive by 9:00 a.m. We will need to meet with everyone first then you can set up the classrooms. There will be donuts! For those bringing cookies, please try to get them here by nine or shortly after so we can get them put on trays. We have had lots of interest in the event so we hope it will be the best one ever. None of this could happen with the generous donations provided by you. Vale UMC will be joining our service on Sunday, August 13th. We will have a potluck after church. Please put this on your calendar and let’s have a big turnout to welcome our Oregon neighbors. Reed’s Concrete and Construction will be tearing out our entrance ramp the week of August 14th. The area will be roped off with construction tape so please just use the next door down that week. The project will be completed by that Sunday morning. We have had a good response for money to fund this project but we are still a little short. The Blessing Pitcher will be out for a couple of more weeks for those of you who didn’t get a chance to pitch in. Thank you everyone! Kathryn Tompkins and her friend Lizzy are at Young Life Camp this week. Keep them in prayer as they learn about and experience God’s love and for safe travels home. Please keep Jeanie Sandquist in your prayers. She has been suffering some unexplained symptoms for the past week or so. According to John, she is starting to feel better but is still weak. Macy Steckley is home from the hospital and is gaining strength every day. Ron and I popped in to visit with her this week and she looks great. We’ll all be happy to have her back in church! Kathryn Gordon sent word that the Baby Scarlet Grace is over 8lbs now and is home. What an answer to prayer! I talked to Anne DeBord this week. She is back in McCall enjoying the cool nights and watching folks on the golf course. She has some helpers come to her home most days and help with showers, laundry, cleaning and meals. If you go to McCall, give her a call. I’m sure she’d be glad to see you! Continue to pray for Jerry and Jim Warzyn, the Williamsons, Jerry and Jay Hall, Shannon Osborn, Mary Boesch, Olivia Bybee, Teresa’s stepdad Larry, Jan Bolin, Steve Simonson, Jean Pollock, Teresa’s grandson and Merlin Daniels The praise songs this week will be Forever and All Who Are Thirsty. Please click on the blue links and listen in. Please keep the School Supply Fair in your prayers this Saturday along with all the children and parents we are blessing. We are a church that loves people. Good job everyone! Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! July 27, 2023
I’m baaaack! Ron and I had a fantastic time in Illinois and Wisconsin visiting Ron’s family. The weather was unbelievably great with temps in the 70’s, low humidity and a slight breeze. We did have one day of rain but I didn’t mind. It was great spending time with family and friends. One little side note: on the rainy day we went to a casino and I won $300! I found out that winning is a lot more fun than losing! As a bonus we were able to meet up with members of my family in Salt Lake City so that was great too. It is good to be home. Here's some great news; Macy Steckley is home! She is doing well and is glad to be home. She appreciates the prayers. Jean Pollock is home from the hospital too! She is doing much better and has therapy scheduled to treat her vertigo. Preparation for our School Supply Fair is in high gear. We have been shopping, counting and organizing and will be ready on Saturday, August 5th. We do need more help for that day. After looking at the sign-up sheet I see we are missing 5th grade classroom managers and escorts. Please sign up on Sunday or call the office and I’ll plug you into a spot! Come and help us love our community. If you are volunteering and would like to wear a shirt that says, “Work hard & be kind, that is all” there are a few on the pew in the entry way. If none of those work for you, get a plain shirt to the shirt to Teresa by Monday and she’ll fix it up. Jean Stephan’s 90th birthday party will be this Saturday, July 29th at the Payette Senior Center from 2-4. Her kids ask that you don’t bring gifts but cards are appreciated. A Fit and Fall Proof Class is returning to PUMC starting Tuesday, August 1st. This class is a safe way to gain strength and agility to prevent falls. Everyone is welcome to attend these classes which will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. There is one more big change to Coffee With the Pastor. Hopefully this will be the last change. Pastor Mary Beth is moving coffee back to Mondays from 9-12 and the location will be Border Town Coffee in Gayway Junction. Starting Monday, July 31st, join our pastor for coffee and she’ll even pay! The Sunday morning Sunday School Class is taking the month of August off. The last class will be on Sunday, July 30th and will resume on Sunday, September 10th. If you are interested in joining this adult class, September will be an excellent time to start attending. We will have a taco feed after church this Sunday, July 30th. The United Methodist Men are putting it all together which we appreciate! There will be a free will offering for this meal and some of what is given will go towards refinishing the entrance ramp. The blessing pitcher for this same project will be out for a few more weeks. On the morning of our School Supply Fair, Saturday, August 5th, the Clothing Closet will be open. That will be an excellent opportunity for folks to become familiar with this service and pick up some school clothes. We have prayer requests this week. We have been praying for Steve Simonson who had brain surgery a couple of weeks ago. We now find out that cancer was detected. He will have both chemo and radiation. Keep Steve and his family in your prayers. Teresa Beer is asking for prayers for her grandson due in November. A cyst was detected on his lung during an ultrasound. Please keep his parents, Austin and Jalani in your prayers too. Keep Macy, Hugh and Jean Pollock in your prayers. We need them back to their best! Keep the following folks in your prayers: Anne DeBord, Jan Bolin, Teresa’s stepdad Larry, Olivia Bybee, Terry Hershey, Mary Boesch, Jim and Jerry Warzyn, Jay and Jerry Hall, Shannon Osborn, the Jeffries, the Williamsons, and Frank Gordon. The worship song this week is Your Love Never Fails. Please click on the blue link and become familiar with it before Sunday. We hope to see you Sunday morning! Stay for tacos! Blessings, Cris Hi Everyone! April 27, 2023
Please spread the word that our worship service on Sunday, April 30th is at Fruitland UMC at 9:30 a.m. We sure don’t anyone showing up at our church Sunday at 11:00. Let’s show up in Fruitland and fill their sanctuary like they filled ours on January 29th. The Trustees met on April 17th and decided to do the spring cleanup the same as fall cleanup. Separate lists for outdoor and indoor tasks are on clipboards that will be available for a few weeks. If you want to help out, sign up for a task and complete it when it is convenient for you. The church is open T-F from 9 to noon every week or if you would like to come at a different time, just let me know and I’ll arrange for it to be open for you. Please bring your own tools and cleaning supplies. We all appreciate your help! Episode 2 of the third season of The Chosen will be shown this Sunday evening at 6:00. The UMM will provide popcorn and soda. The series is amazing, the snacks delicious and you can’t beat the company! Monday Morning Coffee With the Pastor returns to Agape on Monday from 9-12. Stop in and have a free coffee with Pastor Mary Beth on May Day! We received word that Hugh Homan was released from the hospital and is in skilled nursing care in Payette. That is an answer to prayer to keep him close to Doris and Jana. We are so glad he’s on the mend and getting stronger. I made a mistake in the newsletter last week about a former preschool student of Sheri Hood. Brendan Loudermilk passed away after a battle with cancer. Let’s keep his family in our prayers. The Sandquists have returned home after traveling to Independence, OR where John’s sister Karen passed away. They will be returning to wrap things up with Karen’s estate since she had no other family. Pray for strength for John and Jeanie. Tony Irwin’s daughter’s stepson Darby had his brain surgery and had two tumors removed successfully. He is feeling pretty well! Kathryn Gordon’s niece Emily had her tiny premature baby last week. She was born weighing 2lbs. 5 oz. Emily was able to go home but the baby will stay probably until close to her due date. The baby is doing well considering her size. Please keep baby, mom and dad on your prayer list! I will give you the baby’s name when I know. Remember, Glenora’s great granddaughter Eleanor weighed less than two pounds at birth and she is just fine, actually perfect! Continue to pray for Mike Hall’s family as they lost a brother and have a brother with mesothelioma. Ron’s brother Jim had a scan and some more troubling spots were found. Keep Ron and his siblings in your prayers. I got this word from Pam Hardenbrook’s Facebook page: Jim’s father is getting ready to take his final journey. He will soon hear those precious words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Keep Jim, Pam and all of their family in your prayers. Continue to pray for Floyd’s brother Frank, the Williamsons, Irene Jeffries, Shannon Osborn, James’ mom Mary, and Terry Hershey. Since we aren’t having a worship service this week, I won’t come in to work on Friday. I’ll take a 4-day weekend. I will be in town so if something comes up, give me a call and I’ll meet you here. I hope you can get out and enjoy this beautiful spring weather (finally). Keep in mind that all the beauty was created for us by God. Be thankful. Blessings, Cris PS My baby girl, Tess turns 30 this Sunday! Hi Everyone! February 9, 2023

Her children are Michael, Marty and Kathleen and they are thankful to us for helping them out. I talked with John Sandquist this morning. He says that Jeanie is starting to feel better. They both have been busy with lots of appointments and tests. Continue to pray for both of them please. Pastor Mary Beth is asking for prayers for her friend Robin and husband Nathan. Robin is in her 34th week of pregnancy and is having complications. They hope to keep her labor at bay for at least 2 more weeks. James’ mom, Mary is recovering from her accident in which she dislocated her elbow. She had surgery and is now in a hinged elbow brace that will eventually increase range of motion. Mike Hall’s brother Jerry has been diagnosed with Mesothelioma. Please pray for peace for Jerry and all of his family. Ron Warzyn’s brother Jim has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. This is the same brother who had cancer in his sinus cavity last year. Please pray Jim and for the whole family. Blessings, Cris February 2, 2023
Happy February to you all! January has always seemed like a long month to me so the shortest of all months is welcome! Along with that, February seems to always have a few very nice days and I look forward to that. If we didn’t have winter, we wouldn’t appreciate spring so much. Today is Pastor Mary Beth’s birthday! We celebrated her birthday as a church last Sunday along with the Fruitland UMC’s congregation and Pastor Clynton. We had a great turnout and a nice meal afterward with birthday cake for dessert. It was nice to have the pews full and great to see our neighbors. Pastor Mary Beth asked me to share this message with you. THANK YOU to everyone for the cake, the cards, and the blessing on Sunday. James and I truly love our church! As you know, the idea of changing our service time was brought up to the Ad Board last month. The Ad Board decided that we should take this idea to the congregation. The first survey has been completed. It showed that more people voted to change our worship time. A new survey is out to vote on either 10:00 or 10:30 as a starting time. Please take a minute on Sunday to fill out a survey. The survey will be available until the next Ad Board meeting on Monday, February 20th. Please just vote once! There will be no Monday morning coffee with the pastor on this Monday, February 6th. Coffee will resume the following Monday. We will be having an Ash Wednesday service this year on Wednesday, February 22nd at 6:30 p.m. We will be holding a neighborhood Easter egg hunt this year on Saturday, April 1st. I can contact them for you if you’d like, just give me a call. Let’s help Kathryn get to Disneyland!!!! I have been asked to pass along the news that there will be a used book sale fundraiser this Saturday at the Portia Club in Payette from 11-2. All proceeds will go to Four Rivers Healthy Community for Dolly Parton’s Imagine Library. Imagine Library gives a free book every month to children age birth to five years old. What a benefit for our kids! Each child who attends the book sale will receive a free book! We have some prayer requests this week. Last Sunday night, Jeanie Sandquist had a TIA. That’s a transient ischemic attack. It means that the blood flow to part of her brain was blocked for a short time. It caused the same symptoms as a stroke but didn’t cause any lasting damage. She will be on medication and will be watched so that she doesn’t have a stroke in the future. She is home now. Let’s pray for Jeanie, her doctors and for John. James Boesch’s mom Mary had a fall and dislocated her elbow. She had surgery to repair it but she is in a lot of pain. Please keep Mary in your prayers. Mike Hall’s brother Jerry is in Kentucky and has been in the hospital with fluid on his lungs. Gloria, who runs the Community Closet at PUMC had surgery that turned out to be more extensive than they predicted. I asked what we can do for her and Gloria’s reply was, “Please pray for me!” We can do that! Brandon Baumler traveled to Fargo, North Dakota in below zero temperatures to attend his Uncle Scott’s funeral. He asks that you pray for his cousins. He is on his way to Arizona (much better weather) to visit his grandfather. He asks for travel mercies. In church on Sunday, Don Essinger asked us to pray for Letha. She hasn’t been feeling great. Continue to pray for: Irene Jeffries, Lyna’s friend Donna, Deanna’s brother John, Lis and Gary Williamson, Shannon Osborn and Hugh Homan. We hope to see you at church on Sunday! Our praise song will be one that we have sung a couple of times, There’s a Fountain Free. Please click on the link and sing along. Blessings, Cris Payette United Methodist Church

A big shout out goes to them along with Pastor Jim and Pam. The services can be found every Sunday morning right here on our website blog. Just go to that website and click on the multimedia link. You will find the current service along with past ones. DONATE TO MATCH OUR GIFT CARD GRANT! People are hurting financially and we would like to help by providing Albertsons gift cards to people in need. We applied for and received a $500 grant from the conference to help us get started. Pastor Jim is challenging us to raise an extra $1,000 toward this awesome outreach. We have chosen Wicap (Western Idaho Community Action Programs) to help us distribute the $25 gift cards to the right people. Wicap is the governing body of Head Start and many other great programs. If you would like to donate to this cause please send your checks to the church and write “gift cards” on the memo line. FACEMASKS FOR OUR CHURCH Our own Charlene Wimpy and Lis Williamson and her family have made several facemasks for our church! We will be distributing and using these masks when we return to worship. A big shoutout to these folks for using their talent to help us out! AD BOARD NEWS The Ad Board met via Zoom last Monday. We discussed what our reopening will look like when that happens. There is no current plan to reopen and we will wait for guidance from our bishop about that. Pastor Jim asked Ron Warzyn, the Ad Board Chair to appoint a special task force to look into best practices about reopening. Ron asked Danny Crego to head up the committee. The members are Dianne Kinney, Leslie and Gary Olson and Cris Warzyn as the Trustee Chair. Thanks to these folks for stepping up! SEAL COATING FOR PARKING LOT The Ad Board also approved the seal coating and restriping of our parking lot. Our parking lot is 5 years old and we want to take care of it. This project will probably happen the last week of April or the first week of May depending on the weather. The lane will be sealed off with cones during that time. I will still be working so call the office if you need me to walk to the street. I can use the steps. FINANCE COMMITTEE NEWS Wow, look at the way our world has changed in just a couple of months! Our church has been closed for six weeks and it looks as if it will be for at least two more. I know we are all missing our old ways and our ability to congregate and worship our lord together. I am missing the friendly greetings and hugs from “my people” as well as hearing from our faithful pastor in person. Our congregation has done a good job of keeping up with tithes and offerings, despite our inability to hold regular church services. In March, we had $6,870 in giving and $6,424 in expenses. The first 3 weeks of April have yielded $6,553 in offerings. It appears that we are on track to meet expenses for this month as well. I am greatly encouraged by this and so proud of your faithfulness in this unprecedented time. The church may have left the building, but the church is still alive and well! I always say that we are small, but mighty and you are proving it every day! Stay well and blessed my friends. Until we meet again. Teresa Waynetska, Finance Committee Co-Chair Temporary office hours are Wednesday-Saturday 9-12 Joyce Whittet Celebrates a Birthday in Style! Our own Joyce Whittet had her 90th birthday this week and a story about her was featured in the Argus Observer. Her bridge friends did a drive by birthday for her. Judging by the picture in the paper, she was very pleased! Happy Birthday Joyce! PAYETTE UNITED

502 N. 11TH ST. PAYETTE, ID 83661 ~ (208) 642-2475 ~ [email protected] WORSHIP: 11:00 AM ON SUNDAYS February, 2019 FROM JIM’S CLUTTERED DESK Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. 1 Peter 3:15 Every year United Methodist congregations are expected to submit an Annual Report by January 31. We report worship, Bible study and Sunday School attendances. The number of members involved in mission outreach and service endeavors is asked. Finances take up a page of the report. All the data is important. Although you might hear me bellyache about Annual Reports I must admit it could be harder. What if we were asked to report “the reason for the hope that you have.”? Or how we are doing with the command of Jesus to “bless those who curse you.”? How about “let your gentleness be evident to all.”? Those questions cannot be answered by how many people attend worship services or Bible studies. Nor does the amount of money given always provide an accurate evaluation of our congregational health. But I’ve seen your love, your faith, your hope. I’ve heard you talk about the way Jesus guides and empowers you. We weren’t asked to report things like this in the Annual Report but we do have a “reason for the hope that we have.” The reason is Jesus and I look forward to what lies ahead of us in 2019. See you Sunday, Jim Hardenbrook Ryan Haren New Eagle Scout! Our own Ryan Haren will be receiving his Eagle Scout Award on Monday, March 18th at 6:00 p.m. right here at PUMC. Congratulations Ryan!
