Refrain: Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord, to the cross where thou hast died. Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord, to thy precious bleeding side. O the pure delight of a single hour that before thy throne I spend, when I kneel in prayer, and with thee, my God, I commune as friend with friend. (repeat refrain) Responsive Reading Psalm 124 Leader: If it had not been the Lord who on our side – let Israel now say – if it had not been the Lord who was on our side when our enemies attacked us, they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; People: the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; then over us would have gone the raging waters. Leader: Blessed be the Lord, who have not given us as prey to their teeth. People: We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! All: Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Unison Invocation O Heavenly Father, we hear and say so many words, yet yours is the word we need this morning. We know that you speak. Help us to listen; and, if what we hear is silence, let it calm us rather than disturb us; let it shrink our pride and expand our humility. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Hymn “Lord, I want to Be a Christian” UMH #402 vs 1, 2, 4 Lord, I want to be a Christian in my heart, in my heart; Lord, I want to be a Christian in my heart. In my heart, in my heart, Lord, I want to be a Christian in my heart. Lord I want to be more loving in my heart, in my heart; Lord I want to be more loving in my heart. In my heart, in my heart, Lord, I want to be more loving in my heart. Lord, I want to be like Jesus in my heart, in my heart; Lord, I want to be like Jesus in my heart. In my heart, in my heart, Lord, I want to be like Jesus in my heart. Old Testament Reading - Esther 7:1-6 and 9:20-22 Gospel Reading - Mark 9:38-42 God’s Word for God’s People. Thanks be to God! She will be standing in for Pastor Jim, with a sermon from 1Kings 19: 3-9 Commitment Hymn “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” UMH #474 Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on, let me stand, I am tired, I am weak, I am worn; through the storm through the night, lead me on to the light: Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home. When my way grows drear, precious Lord, linger near, when my life is almost gone, hear my cry, hear my call, hold my hand lest I fall: Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home. When the darkness appears and the night draws near, and the day is past and gone, at the river I stand, guide my feet, hold my hand: Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home. Closing Song “Teresa’s Prayer” Christ be in my mind and in my thinking, Christ be in my eyes, in everything I see, Christ be in my ears and in my hearing, Christ be in my mouth, in every word I speak, Christ be in my heart and in my loving, Christ be in my life, each moment that I live. Unison Benediction May the peace of the Lord Jesus go with you wherever he may send you. May he guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm. May he bring you home rejoicing at the wonders he has shown you. May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors. Postlude Thank you for Worshiping with us today! (CCLI License #1552544)

Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod, For I’m part of the family, the family of God *Call to Worship Calling Song “Surely the Presence of the Lord” UMH #328 Surely, the presence of the Lord is in this place; I can feel his mighty power and his grace. Leader: Do not put your trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help. People: When their breath departs, they return to the earth; on that very day their plans perish. Old Testament Reading - Proverbs 22:1-2, 8-9, and 22-23 Gospel Reading - Mark 7:24-30 God’s Word for God’s People. Thanks be to God! “Worship Song “Gather Us In” TFWS #2236 Here in this place new light is streaming, now is the darkness vanished away, See in this space our fears and our dreamings, brought here to you in the light of this day. Gather us in the lost and forsaken, gather us in the blind and the lame; call to us now, and we shall awaken, we shall arise at the sound of our name. We are the young our lives are a mystery We are the old who yearn for you face We have been sung throughout all of history Called to be light to the whole human race Gather us in the rich and the haughty Gather us in the proud and the strong Give us a heart so meek and so lowly Give us the courage to enter the song Not in the dark of buildings confining, not in some heaven, light-years away, but here in this place the new light is shining, now is the Kingdom, now is the day. Gather us in and hold us forever, gather us in and make us your own; gather us in – all peoples together, fire of love in our flesh and bone. Sermon “Mercy Triumphs Over Judgement” James 2:1-17 The Communion Service The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Communion Song "Sanctuary" Lord prepare me To be a Sanctuary Pure and holy Tried and true With thanksgiving I’ll be a living Sanctuary, for You Our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another. Let us confess our sin before God and one another. Prayer of Confession and Pardon Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. Our faith has been tested and we have stumbled. Our feet have strayed from the path of Christ and we have wandered from you. We have put our faith in the loud voices of this world, ignoring your whispers. Forgive us, we pray. We do want to follow Jesus, the Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen. Hear the good news; Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That proves God’s love for us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Please pray: Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery in which “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” Strengthen us in mind, body and soul for the days ahead. May your Spirit fill us as we live and pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. Bread and Cup Please exit through the front door. We will stand in a circle, be served, and partake together. Closing Hymn "I Come With Joy" UMH #617, 2 vs I come with joy to meet my Lord, forgiven, loved, and free; in awe and wonder to recall His life laid down for me. His life laid down for me. Together met, together bound, we'll go our different ways; and as His people in the world, we'll live and speak His praise, we'll live and speak His praise.
