Call To Worship:
Carol           "
Angels from the Realms of Glory"            UMH #220

 Angels from the realms of glory,
wing your flight o’er all the earth;
ye who sang creations story now proclaim Messiah’s birth:

Refrain
Come and worship, come and worship,
worship Christ, the newborn King.

Saints, before the altar bending,
watching long in hope and fear;
suddenly the Lord, descending, in his temple shall appear:

Refrain

Reading from Psalm 148:1-4 (TNIV)
        Leader: Praise the Lord from the heavens;
        People: praise him in the heights above!
        Leader: Praise him, all his angels;
        People: praise him, all his heavenly hosts!
        Leader: Praise him, sun, and moon;
        People: praise him, all you shining stars!
        All: Praise him, you highest heavens!

Unison Invocation            UMH #231
Eternal God, by the birth of Jesus Christ you gave yourself to the world.
Grant that, being born in our hearts,
he may save us from all our sins, and restore within us the image and likeness of You, our heavenly Father, to whom be everlasting praise and glory.
Amen.

Carol           "The First Noel"                    UMH #245
The first Noel the angel did say
was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep,
on a cold winder’s night that was so deep.

Refrain
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

They looked up and saw a star shining in the east,
beyond them far; and to the earth it gave great light,
and so it continued both day and night.

Refrain

Prayers of the People and The Lord's Prayer (in Unison)
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

New Testament Reading      Galatians 4:4-7
God’s Word for God’s people

Christmas Eve Candlelight  Service
Dec. 24, 2020

Carols for Christmas Eve

This Christmas Eve service includes several carols. The organist and pianist will play a verse of each carol and we hope you will sing along; the words are provided here.
The final carol is Silent Night. Before the service begins, have a candle ready to light for that carol and consider turning off your electric lights.

God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen
God rest ye, merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay.
Remember, Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day
To save us all from Satan’s power when we were gone astray.
O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy,
O tidings of comfort and joy.

O Come, all ye Faithful
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant;
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him, born the King of angels.
O come, let us adore Him; O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

O Holy Night
O holy night, the stars are brightly shining.
It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
‘Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices.
O’er yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees; oh hear the angel voices.
O night divine; O night when Christ was born!
O night divine; O night, O night divine!

What Child is This?
What Child is this, who laid to rest on Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthem sweet,
 While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing,
Haste, haste to bring him laud, the Babe, the Son of Mary.

In the Bleak Midwinter
In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter, long ago.

Breath of Heaven (Mary’s Song)
I have traveled many moonless nights;
Cold and weary with a babe inside.
And I wonder what I've done?
Holy Father you have come
And chosen me now to carry your son.
I am waiting in a silent prayer.
I am frightened by the load I bear.
In a world as cold as stone
Must I walk this path alone?
Be with me now; be with me now
Breath of heaven, hold me together.
Be forever near me, Breath of heaven.
Breath of heaven, lighten my darkness;
Pour over me your holiness, for you are holy,
Breath of heaven.

Silent Night
Silent night, holy night; all is calm, all is bright
‘Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child;
Holy Infant so tender and mild.
Sleep in heavenly peace; sleep in heavenly peace.

Merry Christmas and many Blessings to you and your loved ones!

Welcome

Interlude      "Joy to the World"

   Arr. Gilbert Martin

Welcoming the neighborhood to worship

Call To Worship:

Carol          "He Came Down"
       TFWS #2085

He came down that we may have hope;
He came down that we may have hope;
He came down that we may have hope;
Hallelujah for evermore.

He came down that we may have love…

He came down that we have joy…

He came down that we have peace…

Reading from Psalm 89:1-5 (TNIV)
Leader: I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth will I make your faithfulness known.
People: I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established faithfulness in heaven itself.
Leader: You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, have sworn to David my servant, I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.”
People: The heavens praise your wonders, Lord.
All: For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord?

Unison Invocation
Thank you, Lord,
for the signs that confirm that your kingdom
will always overwhelm darkness and evil
even when those plans involves people and situations
we would never choose.
Come, Lord Jesus, Come.
Amen.

Carol       "It Came upon the Midnight Clear"
      UMH #2182
It came upon the midnight clear,
that glorious song of old,
from angels bending near the earth,
to touch their harps of gold;
“Peace on the earth, good will to men,
from heaven’s all gracious King.”
The world in solemn stillness lay,
to hear the angel’s sing.

For lo! The days are hastening on,
by prophets seen of old,
when with the ever circling years
shall come the time foretold
when peace shall over all the earth
its ancient splendors fling,
and the whole world send back the song
which now the angles sing.

Prayers of the People
and The Lord's Prayer (in Unison)
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Gospel Reading                                    Luke 1:46-55
God’s Word for God’s people
Thanks be to God!

Message        “The Lord is With You”           Luke 1:26-38

Chorus          "Let There Be Peace"
UMH #431
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me;
let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father, children all are we.
Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me; let this be the moment now.
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow;
to take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Benediction
May the peace of the Lord Jesus go with you
wherever he may send you.
May he guide you through the wilderness,
protect you through the storm.
May he bring you home rejoicing
at the wonders he has shown you.
May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors

Carol       Like a Child     TFWS #2092
Like a child love would send to reveal and to mend,
like a child and a friend, Jesus comes.
Like a child we may find
claiming heart, soul, and mind, Jesus comes.

Like a child we will meet, ragged clothes, dirty feet,
like a child on the street, Jesus comes.
Like a child we once knew coming back into view,
like a child born anew, Jesus comes.

Like a child born to pray and to show us the way,
like a child here to stay, Jesus comes.
Like a child we receive all that love can conceive,
like a child we believe, Jesus come.

Message              “A Highway for our God”               Isaiah 40:1-11

The Communion Service

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy universal church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

Communion Hymn    Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus     UMH #196
 Born thy people to deliver, born a child and yet a King,
Born to reign in us forever, now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal spirit rule in all our hearts alone;
By thine all sufficient merit raise us to thy glorious throne.

Our Lord invites to his table all who love him,
Who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another.
Let us confess our sin before God and one another.

Prayer of Confession and Pardon
Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart.
Our faith has been tested and we have stumbled.
Our feet have strayed from the path of Christ and we have wandered from you.
We have put our faith in the loud voices of this world, ignoring your whispers.
Forgive us, we pray.
 We do want to follow Jesus, the Christ, in whose name we pray.
Amen.

Hear the good news;
Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That proves God’s love for us.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
Thanks be to God!

Bread and Cup
Please take the bread.
Please take the cup.

Please pray:
Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery
in which “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
Strengthen us in mind, body and soul for the days ahead.
May your Spirit fill us as we live and pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Hymn                          Joy to the World                            UMH 246
Joy to the world, the Lord has come!
Let earth receive her King;
let every heart prepare him room,
and heaven and nature sing, and heaven and nature sing, and heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.

Benediction
May the peace of the Lord Jesus go with you
wherever he may send you.

May he guide you through the wilderness,
protect you through the storm.
May he bring you home rejoicing
at the wonders he has shown you.

May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.
