Christmas Eve Candlelight Service Dec. 24, 2020 Carols for Christmas Eve This Christmas Eve service includes several carols. The organist and pianist will play a verse of each carol and we hope you will sing along; the words are provided here. The final carol is Silent Night. Before the service begins, have a candle ready to light for that carol and consider turning off your electric lights. God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen God rest ye, merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay. Remember, Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day To save us all from Satan’s power when we were gone astray. O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy. O Come, all ye Faithful O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant; O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem. Come and behold Him, born the King of angels. O come, let us adore Him; O come, let us adore Him; O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord. O Holy Night O holy night, the stars are brightly shining. It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining ‘Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices. O’er yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees; oh hear the angel voices. O night divine; O night when Christ was born! O night divine; O night, O night divine! What Child is This? What Child is this, who laid to rest on Mary’s lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthem sweet, While shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing, Haste, haste to bring him laud, the Babe, the Son of Mary. In the Bleak Midwinter In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan, Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone; Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow, In the bleak midwinter, long ago. Breath of Heaven (Mary’s Song) I have traveled many moonless nights; Cold and weary with a babe inside. And I wonder what I've done? Holy Father you have come And chosen me now to carry your son. I am waiting in a silent prayer. I am frightened by the load I bear. In a world as cold as stone Must I walk this path alone? Be with me now; be with me now Breath of heaven, hold me together. Be forever near me, Breath of heaven. Breath of heaven, lighten my darkness; Pour over me your holiness, for you are holy, Breath of heaven. Silent Night Silent night, holy night; all is calm, all is bright ‘Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child; Holy Infant so tender and mild. Sleep in heavenly peace; sleep in heavenly peace. Merry Christmas and many Blessings to you and your loved ones! (CCLI License #1552544)

O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord! Message “A Highway for our God” Isaiah 40:1-11 The Communion Service The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Communion Hymn Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus UMH #196 Born thy people to deliver, born a child and yet a King, Born to reign in us forever, now thy gracious kingdom bring. By thine own eternal spirit rule in all our hearts alone; By thine all sufficient merit raise us to thy glorious throne. Our Lord invites to his table all who love him, Who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another. Let us confess our sin before God and one another. Prayer of Confession and Pardon Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. Our faith has been tested and we have stumbled. Our feet have strayed from the path of Christ and we have wandered from you. We have put our faith in the loud voices of this world, ignoring your whispers. Forgive us, we pray. We do want to follow Jesus, the Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen. Hear the good news; Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That proves God’s love for us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Bread and Cup Please take the bread. Please take the cup. Please pray: Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery in which “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” Strengthen us in mind, body and soul for the days ahead. May your Spirit fill us as we live and pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. Hymn Joy to the World UMH 246 Joy to the world, the Lord has come! Let earth receive her King; let every heart prepare him room, and heaven and nature sing, and heaven and nature sing, and heaven, and heaven, and nature sing. Benediction May the peace of the Lord Jesus go with you wherever he may send you. May he guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm. May he bring you home rejoicing at the wonders he has shown you. May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors. Postlude I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day arr.
