Welcoming the Light of Christ Interlude: “Sweet Hour of Prayer”, Craig Dobbins, guitar Ringing the Church Bell CALL TO WORSHIP CALLING SONG “Amazing Grace” #378 in the UM Hymnal Lyrics by John Newton; music “New Britian” arranged by Edwin Excel ~~~ Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found. Was blind, but now I see. T’was grace that taught my heart to fear And grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed. Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come. T’is grace has brought me safe thus far And grace will lead me home. The Lord has promised good to me His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures. And when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease, I shall possess within the veil A life of joy and peace. The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine. But God who called me here below Will be forever mine. When we’ve been there ten thousand years Bright shining as the sun. We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise Than when we first begun. RESPONSIVE READING Selections from Psalm 105 Leader: O give thanks to the Lord, call on God’s name, Make known God’s deeds among the peoples! People: Sing to the Lord, sing praises! Dear Payette United Methodist Family, We have been approved to move into Phase two of our re-imagining plan. Here is the approved plan of how we may proceed: Payette United Methodist Church Reimagining Church Reintegration Procedures As an organization, we take responsibility for the safety of the people that come into our space by ensuring the proper safety precautions and sanitation is available. As a religious body, we are accountable for the welfare of those God entrusts to bring into His presence in our gatherings. Therefore, we created these policies and procedures to follow for the well-being of every soul that utilizes the church building and for all off campus gatherings of groups affiliated with our organization. In the case of someone who has been in a worship service or meeting tests positive, we will have a precise accountability for each person that attends each meeting and/or worship service and a way to contact them to notify of positive case. Furthermore, all people in attendance will be asked not to return to the building for 14 days, and if they notice any symptoms, they will need to be tested as well. We hold that all are welcome to attend our services; hence, even though those in the high risk category are encouraged to stay home, they have the right to choose whether or not they follow the guidance. Therefore, we will provide a safe place for a person to attend the worship service. Phase One Policy: Payette will hold no gatherings on the church grounds or off campus gatherings except for the required people to create an on-line service with no more than five individuals. These individuals will keep the physical distancing protocol and hygiene requirements. They are responsible for sanitizing the area used and for proper hygiene. The leader of this group will re-educate the group each time they meet of the proper safety precautions and hygiene. Phase Two: Church Committee Meetings and the Bible Study will resume meeting with no more than ten people in the meeting. The leader of each group will take accountability to ensure the safety precautions and sanitation stations are available before and during the meetings. They will not meet in the church building due to the conference’s guidelines and will offer an online alternative to attend. After the meetings are concluded, it is the group leader’s responsibility to ensure the utilized space is cleaned properly. Phase Three: Church Committee Meetings and Bible Study may resume in the building following the safety precautions and hygiene guidelines with no more than 50 people in attendance. The leader of each group will take accountability to ensure the safety precautions and sanitation stations are available before and during the meetings. After the meetings are concluded, it is the group leader’s responsibility to ensure the utilized space is cleaned properly. Phase Four: Church services will resume and be held in the sanctuary of the church building. Hand sanitation stations will be provided. Education material will be posted at various locations in the building where people will notice them. Hand washing stations with proper hygiene steps and masks will be available. The sanctuary and fellowship hall will be cleaned and sanitized after each use until further notice. Table of Contents • High Risk Populations • Physical Distancing • Maximum Group Size • Leadership Responsibilities • Sanitation • Safety Actions • Staff and Volunteers • Worship • Ministry Activities and Events • Building Use • Community Connection and Outreach • Essential Services • Other Ministry Settings • Communion • Lifeline Screening • School Supply Fair • Water Systems • Food/Fellowship High Risk Populations
These policies and procedures were created and are submitted by the Reintegration Committee on behalf of the Payette United Methodist Church. Hi All,
This just in from our pastor in cool Alaska "Present your prayers and petitions with thanksgiving…” Philippians 4:6 Our Alaska cabin is a “dry cabin.” That just means there’s no indoor plumbing. We have a pretty nice outhouse but the water we use must be hauled in or caught in rain barrels. Rain water is boiled for coffee or tea, washing dishes and hands, and is pumped to the outdoor shower. We fill several five-gallon jugs with potable water in town every week. A quarter buys about ten gallons. We get along pretty well but it is inconvenient. Living like this for a few weeks helps me realize how spoiled I am. Many people haul water but not by choice. My grandmother (see picture) homesteaded a place outside of Nyssa. For the first year they hauled water from a ditch to their basement house. Yes, I’m spoiled. In the words of an old hymn: “When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed; when you are discouraged thinking all is lost; Count your many blessings, angels will attend; help and comfort give you ‘til your journey ends.” Yes, our lives have been disrupted significantly over the past few months. There are many “unknowns” that shadow our lives. But let’s make time every day to turn off the television, quiet our souls and “count our many blessings.” Stay negative and wash your hands, Pastor Jim A Week’s Reflection
Summer Devotions 8/7/2020 Danny Crego This week, the following scriptures have been repeating in my mind and heart as I work in a unit where people can be filled with despair and loneliness. John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in me.” Revelation 2:2-4 “I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance. I know that you cannot tolerate evildoers; you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them to be false. I also know that you are enduring patiently and bearing up for the sake of my name, and that you have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.” And Hebrews 4:12 “Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. As I reflect on what these scriptures demand of me, I have but one rule and authority, and in order to follow Christ, who is that rule and authority, I am to question my motives. It is not the actions that describe the honesty and integrity of a person, it is the motives behind the actions. Am I working and laboring in love or am I working for a paycheck? Am I working to be an example of Christ, or am I working that I may be seen and praised? If I am to be honest with myself and with God, I have to be honest about the motives and purposes that drive me into action on a daily basis. This does not mean that difficult days did not occur; this does not mean that I failures did not occur or that I knew how to face every decision or that I faced every decision correctly. However, it does mean that I reflect on these decisions and repent where needed. Every day we are faced with two choices: hope in God or live in self. People need us to give the hope of God above all else. It is that hope that keeps us, gives us peace, and comforts us in our times of trouble. But if we work falsely and do not allow God to direct our actions, thoughts, and motives, we are unable to share that hope with the world around us and fall short of the first calling God lays upon us when we accept Christ into our lives as Lord and Savior. We are His ambassadors and need to be peacemakers by shining hope in the daily darkness that arises. Allow Psalm 139 to be your Hymn of reflection and meditation today and this week. "For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you. If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty! They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name. Do I not hate those who hate you, LORD, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you? I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies. Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Payette United Methodist Church August 2, 2020 Communion Sunday PRELUDE: “To God Be The Glory” by W. H.
