RINGING of the CHURCH BELL

CALL TO WORSHIP

CALLING  HYMN:  “Spirit of God”   #2117  The Faith We Sing,   verses 1, 3, & 5
Spirit of God, bright Wind, breath that bids life begin,
Blow as you always do, create us anew.
Give us the breath to sing, lifted on soaring wing,
Held in your hands, borne on you wings.
Alleluia!  Come, Spirit, come!
Alleluia!  Come, Spirit, come!

Spirit of God, bright Hands, even in far off lands
You hold all the human race in one warm embrace.
No matter where we go, you hold us together so,
Held in your hands, borne on your wings.
Alleluia!  Come, Spirit, come!
Alleluia! Come, Spirit, come!

Spirit of God in all, we gladly hear your call,
The life in our hands that sings, the power of your wings.
Born of your grace we rise, love shining in our eyes,
Held in your hands, borne on your wings,
Alleluia,!  Come, Spirit, come!
Alleluia!  Come, Spirit, come!

RESPONSIVE READING:  from  Psalm 17: 6-8, 15
Leader:   I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God,
People:  Incline your ear to me, hear my words
Leader: Wondrously show your steadfast love.
People:  Guard me as the apple of your eye:  Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
All:  Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand.

UNISON  INVOCATION:
O God, who is our hiding place from the wind and a shelter from the storm: During this, our worship, help us to turn from the tumult and clamor of the world to the calm of your Great Assurance; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen

PRAYER  HYMN     “Sweet Hour of Prayer”    #496 United Methodist Hymnal
Sweet hour of prayer!  Sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
my soul has often found relief,
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer!  Sweet hour of prayer!
The joys I feel, the bliss I share
Of those whose anxious spirits burn
with strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
where God my Savior shows his face,
And gladly take my station there,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer!  Sweet hour of prayer!
Thy wings shall my petition bear
To him whose truth and faithfulness
engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since he bids me seek his face,
Believe his word, and trust his grace,
I’ll cast on him my every care,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

PASTORAL PRAYER
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

SCRIPTURE:  Matthew 14:13-21
Leader:  The Word of God for the people of God
          People:  Thanks be to God.

COMMUNION  MEDITATION:  “Are You Hungry?”    Dr. D. Scott Allen

COMMUNION  LITURGY:  (including the Apostles’ Creed)
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried;
The third day he arose from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic church,
The communion of saints,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting.  Amen

HOLY  COMMUNION

COMMITMENT  HYMN   “Standing on the Promises”  #374 United  Methodist Hymnal
Standing on the promises of Christ the King
Through the eternal ages let his praises ring.
Glory in the highest I will shout and sing
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain
Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God my Savior
Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail
By the living word of God I shall prevail.
Standing on the promises of God.
Refrain

Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.
Refrain

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.
Refrain

UNISON  BENEDICTION:
May the peace of the LORD Jesus go with you, wherever he may send you.
May he guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm.
May he bring you home rejoicing at the wonders he has shown you.
May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.  Amen

We certainly appreciated today's recording. It was so helpful and made us feel connected to our church families.
We are thankful for all who made this possible.
