Calling Song: “Come, Thou Almighty King”                      UMH#61 vs. 1-3

Responsive Reading: Psalm 27:1, 4-9 (CEB) - Glenora Wright
One: The Lord is my light and my salvation. Should I fear anyone?
Many: The Lord is a fortress protecting my life. Should I be frightened of anything?
One: I have asked one thing from the Lord—it’s all I seek: to live in the Lord’s house all the days of my life, seeing the Lord’s beauty and constantly adoring God’s temple.
Many: Because God will shelter me in God’s own dwelling during troubling times; God will hide me in a secret place in God’s own tent; God will set me up high, safe on a rock.
One: Now my head is higher than the enemies surrounding me, and I will offer sacrifices in God’s tent—sacrifices with shouts of joy! I will sing and praise the Lord.
Many: Lord, listen to my voice when I cry out—have mercy on me and answer me!
One: Come, my heart says, seek God’s face.
Many: Lord, I do seek your face! Please don’t hide it from me!
One: Don’t push your servant aside angrily—you have been my help!
Many: God who saves me, don’t neglect me! Don’t leave me all alone!
One: This is our prayer.
Many: Lord, hear our prayer.

Gathering Hymn: “Family of God”
Calling Song: “My Life Is in You, Lord”                                  TFWS# 2032

Responsive Reading: Psalm 40:1-11 (CEB) Leslie Olson
One: We put all our hope in the Lord.
Many: God leaned down to us; God listened to our cry for help.
One: God lifted us out of the pit of death, out of the mud and filth, and set our feet on solid rock.
Many: God steadied our legs and put a new song in our mouths, a song of praise for our God.
One: Many people will learn of this and be amazed; they will trust the Lord.
Many: Those who put their trust in the Lord, who pay no attention to the proud or to those who follow lies, are truly happy!
One: You, Lord our God! You’ve done so many things—your wonderful deeds and your plans for us--
no one can compare with you!
Many: If we were to proclaim and talk about all of them, they would be too numerous to count!
One: You don’t relish sacrifices or offerings; you don’t require entirely burned offerings or compensation offerings—but you have given us ears!
Many: So we said, “Here we come! We are inscribed in the written scroll. We want to do your will, our God. Your Instruction is deep within us.”
One: We’ve told the good news of your righteousness in the great assembly. We didn’t hold anything back—as you well know, Lord!
Many: We didn’t keep your righteousness only to ourselves. We declared your faithfulness and your salvation.
One: We didn’t hide your loyal love and trustworthiness from the great assembly. So now you, Lord--
don’t hold back any of your compassion from us.
Many: Let your loyal love and faithfulness always protect us.
One: This is our prayer.
Many: Lord, hear our prayer.

Calling Song: “O Come All Ye Faithful” UMH#234 vs.1-3

Responsive Reading: Psalm 72:1-7, 10-14 (CEB)
One: God, give your judgments to the king. Give your righteousness to the king’s son.
Many: Let him judge your people with righteousness and your poor ones with justice.
One: Let the mountains bring peace to the people; let the hills bring righteousness.
Many: Let the king bring justice to people who are poor; let him save the children of those who are needy, but let him crush oppressors!
One: Let the king live as long as the sun, as long as the moon, generation to generation.
Many: Let him fall like rain upon fresh-cut grass, like showers that water the earth.
One: Let the righteous flourish throughout their lives, and let peace prosper until the moon is no more.
Many: Let the kings of Tarshish and the islands bring tribute; let the kings of Sheba and Seba present gifts.
One: Let all the kings bow down before him; let all the nations serve him.
Many: Let it be so, because he delivers the needy who cry out, the poor, and those who have no helper.
One: He has compassion on the weak and the needy; he saves the lives of those who are in need.
Many: He redeems their lives from oppression and violence; their blood is precious in his eyes.
