Payette United Methodist Church Pentecost May 31, 2020 Prelude Welcome and Announcements Welcoming the Light of Christ – please light a candle Call to Worship Interlude Ringing the church bell Calling Song “Here I Am, Lord” UMH #593 I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people’s pain. I have wept for love of them. They turn away. I will break their hearts of stone, give them hearts for love alone. I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send? Here I am, Lord, is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart. Responsive Reading from Psalm 104:33-34 Leader: I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.. People: May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord. Leader: Praise the Lord, my soul. All: Praise the Lord! Unison Invocation Lord Jesus, you promised life and life more abundant. Today we confess that we have often chosen the ways of death and destruction. Here we are, gathered to worship, asking you to help us choose life. To speak truth, not perpetuate lies; To face our fears, not rationalize them; To befriend strangers, not protect ourselves from them; To stand with those who suffer; to weep with those who weep. We need you to show the way as we pray in your name. Amen. Hymn “God of Grace and God of Glory” UMH #577 God of grace and God of glory, on thy people pour thy power; Crown thine ancient church’s story; bring her bud to glorious flower. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage; For the facing of this hour, for the facing of this hour. Cure thy children’s warring madness, bend our pride to thy control. Shame our wanton, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul Grant us wisdom; grant us courage; Lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal, Lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal. Save us from weak resignation to the evils we deplore; Let the search for thy salvation be our glory evermore. Grant us wisdom; grant us courage, Serving thee whom we adore, serving thee whom we adore. Offering our gifts and tithes Offertory Offering prayer: Heavenly Father, you are the “giver of every good and perfect gift.” Thank you. May our time, talents, and treasures be tools in your hands So that your kingdom would come on earth as it is in heaven. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. Prayers of the People The Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Hymn “Santo, Santo, Santo” TFWS #2007 Holy, holy, holy. My heart, my heart adores you! My heart knows how to say to you: You are holy, Lord. ¡Santo, santo, santo, mi corazon te adora! Mi corazon te sabe decir: ¡Santo eres Dios! Holy, holy, holy. My heart, my heart adores you! My heart knows how to say to you: You are holy, Lord. Message “What Does This Mean?” Acts 2:1-12 Commitment Hymn Spirit of the Living God” UMH #393 Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me. Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me. Melt me. Mold me. Fill me. Use me. Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me. Very early this morning, the rushing roar of wind and loud claps of thunder awakened me from a deep sleep. “ I heard you Lord, calling me in the night.”
