Payette United Methodist Church Fifth Sunday of Easter – May 10, 2020

Welcome and Announcements

Welcoming the Light of Christ

CALL TO WORSHIP                                  Responsive Reading from Psalm 31:1-5
Leader: In you, O Lord, I seek refuge; do not let me ever be put to shame;  in your righteousness deliver me.
People: Incline your ear to me;  rescue me speedily.  Be a rock of refuge for me,  a strong fortress to save me.
Leader: You are indeed my rock and my fortress;  for your name’s sake lead me and guide me, take me out of the net that is hidden for me, for you are my refuge.
All: Into your hands I commit my spirit;  you have redeemed me,  O Lord, faithful God.

Calling Song              “Guide My Feet”                           TFWS #2208
Guide my feet while I run this race.
Guide my feet while I run this race.
Guide my feet while I run this race,
For I don’t want to run this race in vain.

Unison Invocation
Heavenly Father, we acknowledge your presence among us today. This past week we have moved through some trials. Some of them have overwhelmed us for a while. Use these moments of worship to help us joyfully hear and see you  through our risen Savior, Jesus Christ  in whose name we pray. Amen.

Hymn                   “Lead Me, Guide Me”                            TFWS #2214
(Refrain)
Lead me, guide me, along the way, For if you lead me, I cannot stray.
Lord, let me walk each day with thee. Lead me, O Lord, lead me.

I am weak and I need thy strength and power
to help me over my weakest hour.
Help me through the darkness thy face to see,
Lead me, O Lord, lead me.

(Refrain)

I am lost if you take your hand from me,
I am blind without thy Light to see,
Lord, just always let me thy servant be.
Lead me, O Lord, lead me.

(Refrain)

Gospel Reading                                                                                      John 14:1-14 New Testament Reading                                                                          1 Peter 2:2-10 God’s Word for God’s people! Thanks be to God!

Offering our gifts and tithes
Offering prayer:  Gracious, giving God,  we acknowledge your faithfulness.  We thank you, as well, for those faithful saints  who have gone before us.  Those who have built and kept up houses of worship.  Those who have taught us in Sunday School.  Those who have given their money and time  to support and serve churches and missions.  Those who have quietly followed Jesus,  the one through whom we pray. Amen.

Hymn                     “My Faith Looks Up To Thee”                        UMH #452
My faith looks up to thee,
thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior Divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
take all my guilt away,
O let me from this day be wholly thine!

May thy rich grace impart
strength to my fainting heart, my zeal inspire!
As thou hast died for me,
O may my love to thee
pure, warm and changeless be, a living fire!

While life’s dark maze I tread,
and griefs around me spread,  be thou my guide;
bid darkness turn to day,
wipe sorrow’s tears away,
nor let me ever stray from thee aside.

Message                                             “He Prayed”                                     Acts 7:54-60

Commitment Hymn                  “Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus”                       UMH #349
(Refrain)
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
look full in his wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace.

O soul are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free
.

(Refrain)

His word shall not fail you he promised.
Believe him and all will be well.
Then go to a world that is dying
His perfect salvation to tell.

(Refrain)

Benediction
May the peace of the Lord Jesus go with you
wherever he may send you.
May he guide you through the wilderness,
protect you through the storm.
May he bring you home rejoicing
at the wonders he has shown you.
May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors

He is risen! He is risen indeed!

Thank you for Worshiping with us today!
