Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod, For I’m part of the family, the family of God. Calling Song: “To God Be the Glory” UMH#98 all vs. To God be the glory, great things he hath done! So loved he the world that he gave us his Son, who yielded his life an atonement for sin, and opened the life-gate that all may go in. Refrain: Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son, and give him the glory, great things he hath done! O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood, to every believer the promise of God; the vilest offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives. (Refrain) Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done, and great our rejoicing thru Jesus the Son; but purer, and higher, and greater will be our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. (Refrain) Responsive Reading: Psalm 113 (CEB) - Glenora Wright One: Praise the Lord! You who serve the Lord—praise! Praise the Lord’s name! Unison Invocation - Glenora Wright God of love, to whom our hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden; cleanse our hearts by the power of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord, amen. Hymn: “Gloria Patri” UMH#70 Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. Scripture Readings - Glenora Wright Before reading, the reader prays the following words: One: God, open our hearts and minds by the power of the Holy Spirit, that as the scriptures are read and your Word proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. And all the people said: Many: Amen. New Testament Reading: 1 Timothy 2:1-7 (CEB) First of all, then, I ask that requests, prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving be made for all people. Pray for kings and everyone who is in authority so that we can live a quiet and peaceful life in complete godliness and dignity. This is right and it pleases God our savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. There is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, the human Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a payment to set all people free. This was a testimony that was given at the right time. I was appointed to be a preacher and apostle of this testimony—I’m telling the truth and I’m not lying! I’m a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. One: The story of God for the people of God! Many: Thanks be to God! Gospel Reading: Luke 16:1-13 (CEB) One: This is the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke. Many: Glory to you, Lord Christ! Jesus also said to the disciples, “A certain rich man heard that his household manager was wasting his estate. He called the manager in and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give me a report of your administration because you can no longer serve as my manager.’ “The household manager said to himself, What will I do now that my master is firing me as his manager? I’m not strong enough to dig and too proud to beg. I know what I’ll do so that, when I am removed from my management position, people will welcome me into their houses. “One by one, the manager sent for each person who owed his master money. He said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ He said, ‘Nine hundred gallons of olive oil.’ The manager said to him, ‘Take your contract, sit down quickly, and write four hundred fifty gallons.’ Then the manager said to another, ‘How much do you owe?’ He said, ‘One thousand bushels of wheat.’ He said, ‘Take your contract and write eight hundred.’ “The master commended the dishonest manager because he acted cleverly. People who belong to this world are more clever in dealing with their peers than are people who belong to the light. I tell you, use worldly wealth to make friends for yourselves so that when it’s gone, you will be welcomed into the eternal homes. “Whoever is faithful with little is also faithful with much, and the one who is dishonest with little is also dishonest with much. If you haven’t been faithful with worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? If you haven’t been faithful with someone else’s property, who will give you your own? No household servant can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be loyal to the one and have contempt for the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” One: This is the Gospel of our Lord. Many: Praise to you, Lord Christ! (chorus) As we gaze on your kingly brightness, so our faces display your likeness; ever changing from glory to glory, mirrored here may our lives tell your story. Shine on me, shine on me. (chorus) Message: Pastor Mary Beth Boesch - Revelation 11:15-19 (CEB) Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and Christ, and God will rule forever and always.” Then the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshipped God. They said, “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and was, for you have taken your great power and enforced your rule. The nations were enraged, but your wrath came. The time came for the dead to be judged. The time came to reward your servants, the prophets and saints, and those who fear your name, both small and great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.” Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the chest containing God’s covenant appeared in the temple. There were lightning, voices, thunder, an earthquake, and large hail. The story of God for the people of God. Many: Thanks be to God! Response Song “Glorious Ruins” - Music Team When the mountains fall and the tempest roars, you are with me When creation folds, still my soul will soar on your mercy I’ll walk through the fire with my head lifted high And my spirit revived in your story And I’ll look to the cross as my failure is lost In the light of your glorious grace So let the ruins come to life, in the beauty of your name Rising up from the ashes, God forever you reign And my soul will find refuge in the shadow of your wings I will love you forever, and forever I’ll sing When the world caves in, still my soul will cling to your promise When my courage ends, let my heart find strength in your presence I’ll walk through the fire with my head lifted high And my spirit revived in your story And I’ll look to the cross as my failure is lost In the light of your glorious grace So let the ruins come to life, in the beauty of your name Rising up from the ashes, God forever you reign And my soul will find refuge in the shadow of your wings I will love you forever, and forever I’ll sing Let the ruins come to life, in the beauty of your name Rising up from the ashes, God forever you reign And my soul will find refuge in the shadow of your wings I will love you forever, and forever I’ll sing Commitment Hymn: “Sing with All the Saints in Glory” UMH#702 vs. 1,3,4 Sing with all the saints in glory, sing the resurrection song! Death and sorrow, earth's dark story, to the former days belong. All around the clouds are breaking, soon the storms of time shall cease; in God's likeness we, awaking, know the everlasting peace. Life eternal! heaven rejoices: Jesus lives, who once was dead. Join we now the deathless voices; child of God, lift up your head! Patriarchs from the distant ages, saints all longing for their heaven, prophets, psalmists, seers, and sages, all await the glory given. Life eternal! O what wonders crowd on faith; what joy unknown, when, amidst earth's closing thunders, saints shall stand before the throne! O to enter that bright portal, see that glowing firmament; know, with thee, O God Immortal, "Jesus Christ whom thou has sent!" Sending Forth/Unison Benediction One: May God bless you and keep you; may God’s face shine upon you and be gracious unto you; may God’s countenance be lifted upon you and give you peace, from this day forth and forevermore.
