June 12, 2022 (as recorded at Fruitland United Methodist Church) Prelude Welcome & Announcements Call to Worship *Calling Song “How Majestic is Your Name” TFWS #2023 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. O Lord, we praise your name. O Lord, we magnify your name: Prince of Peace, mighty God; O Lord God Almighty. Responsive Reading from Psalm 8 Leader: Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. People: When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and stars, which you have put in place, what are mere mortals that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? Leader: You have made them a little lower than yourself and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; People: You put everything under their feet: flocks and herds, the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. All: Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Unison Invocation Heavenly Father please remind us this morning of your majesty, the creation, and your amazing grace. Forgive us for the times this week when we have been distracted and overwhelmed by reports of violence and injustice. Use this time to return us to people who see beauty and love in this scarred world. Help us sense the incredible scope of your concern and care that is so profoundly shown in Jesus, through whom we pray. Amen. Hymn of Petition “Shine, Jesus, Shine” TFWS #2173 Refrain: Shine Jesus shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory, blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire; flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy, send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light. Lord, the light of your love is shining in the midst of the darkness shining; Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us, set us free by the truth you now bring us. Shine on me, shine on me. (Repeat Refrain) Old Testament Reading Proverbs 8:22-31 Gospel Reading John 16:12-15 God’s Word for God’s People. Thanks Be To God Offering and Singing "The Family of God" chorus I'm so glad I'm a part, of the family of God I've been washed in the fountain Cleansed by His blood Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod For I'm part of the family The family of God Prayers of the People Prayer Hymn "Prayer is the Soul’s Sincere Desire" UMH # 492 (Tune: O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing) Prayer is the soul's sincere desire, unuttered or expressed, the motion of a hidden fire that trembles in the breast. Prayer is the burden of a sigh, the falling of a tear, the upward glancing of an eye, when none but God is near. O Thou, by whom we come to God, the Life, the Truth, the Way: the path of prayer thyself hast trod; Lord, teach us how to pray! Message “Teach Us To Pray” Luke 11:1-4 Hymn “ The Lord’s Prayer” Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive them that sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Unison Benediction May the peace of the Lord Jesus go with you wherever he may send you. May he guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm. May he bring you home rejoicing at the wonders he has shown you. May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors. *from Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals Postlude Thank you for Worshiping with us today! (CCLI License #1552544)
