Payette United Methodist Church Third Sunday of Easter – April 26, 2020 Welcome and Announcements Welcoming the Light of Christ CALL TO WORSHIP Responsive Reading from Psalm 116 Leader: I love the Lord, because has heard my voice and my supplications. People: Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. Leader: The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. People: Then I called on the Lord; “O Lord, I pray, save my life.” Leader: Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful. All: Return, O my soul, to your rest, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. Calling Song “I Come With Joy” UMH #617 I come with joy to meet my Lord, forgiven, loved and free, In awe and wonder to recall his life laid down for me, His life laid down for me. As Christ breaks bread and bids us share, each proud division ends. The love that made us makes us one, and strangers now are friends, And strangers now are friends. And thus with joy we meet our Lord, His presence, always near, Is in such friendship better know; we see and praise him here, We see and praise him here. Unison Invocation Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of salvation and grant a willing spirit to sustain me. We pray in our Redeemer’s name. Amen. Hymn “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” UMH #133 What a fellowship, what a joy divine, Leaning on the everlasting arms; What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, Leaning on the everlasting arms. Refrain Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms; Leaning, leaning; leaning on the everlasting arms. O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way, Leaning on the everlasting arms; O how bright the path grows from day to day, Leaning on the everlasting arms. Refrain What have I to dread, what have I to fear, Leaning on the everlasting arms? I have blessed peace with my Lord so near, Leaning on the everlasting arms. Refrain First New Testament Reading 1 Peter 1:17-23 Second New Testament Reading Acts 2:14a, 33-41 God’s Word for God’s people. Thanks be to God! Offering our gifts and tithes Offering prayer: Through Jesus we pray. Amen. Chorus “Lord of the Dance” UMH #261 I danced in the morning when the world was begun, And I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun, And I came down from heaven and I dance on the earth, At Bethlehem I had my birth. Refrain Dance, then, wherever you may be; I am the Lord of the Dance, said he. And I’ll lead you all wherever you may be, And I’ll lead you all in the dance, said he. I danced for the scribe and the Pharisee, But they would not dance and they would not follow me; I danced for the fishermen for James and John; They came to me and the dance went on. Refrain I danced on a Friday and the sky turned black; It’s hard to dance with the devil on your back; They buried my body and thought I’d gone, But I am the dance and I still go on. Refrain They cut me down and I leapt up high, I am the life that will never, never die; I’ll live in you if you’ll live in me; I am the Lord of the Dance said he. Refrain Prayers of the People Message “He Was At the Table with Them” Luke 24:13-35 *Commitment Hymn “Spirit Song” UMH #347 O let the Son of God enfold you with his Spirit and his love, Let him fill your heart and satisfy your soul. O let him have the things that hold you, and his Spirit like a dove Will descend upon your life and make you whole. Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill your lambs. Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill your lambs. O come and sing this song with gladness as your hearts are filled with joy. Lift your hands in sweet surrender to his name. O give him all your tears and sadness; give him all your years of pain, and you’ll enter into life in Jesus’ name. Jesus, O Jesus come and fill your lambs. Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill your lambs. Benediction May the peace of the Lord Jesus go with you wherever he may send you. May he guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm. May he bring you home rejoicing at the wonders he has shown you. May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors. Thank you for Worshiping with us today!
