Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One, Give thanks because he’s given Jesus Christ, his Son. And now let the weak say, “I am strong.” Let the poor say, “I am rich because of what the Lord has done for us.” And now let the weak say, “I am strong,” Let the poor say I am rich because of what the Lord has done for us.” Give thanks. Give thanks. Give thanks. Responsive Reading from Psalm 118 Leader: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. People: The stone the builders rejected has become our cornerstone. Leader: the Lord has done this and it is marvelous in our eyes. People: The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice and be glad. Leader: You are my God, and I will praise you; you are my God and I will exalt you. All: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Unison Invocation Dear Father in heaven, Palm Sunday worship services are usually filled with joyful songs and fresh palms. But today is not usual. No parades are allowed. We are in our houses not in our church buildings. We feel alone. Yet, we do believe your presence is real and available. So by faith we lift our voices, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of Lord!” We pray in his name. Amen. Hymn “My Hope Is Built” My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame But wholly lean on Jesus’ name. Refrain: On Christ the solid rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand. When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace. In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil. Refrain: When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found! Dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne. Refrain: Gospel Reading Matthew 21:1-11 New Testament Reading Philippians 2:3-11 God’s Word for God’s People. Thanks be to God! Offering our gifts and tithes Offering prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for the church and our congregations. Surround us with your courage, wisdom, discipline and peace. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. Prayers of the People Message “He Humbled Himself” Philippians 2:3-11 Response to the Word I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of the saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. The Communion Service Communion Hymn “More Like You” More like you, Jesus, more like you. Fill my heart with your desire to make me more like you. More like you, Jesus, more like you. Touch my lips with holy fire and make me more like you. Lord, you are my mercy. Lord you are my grace. All my deepest sins have forever been erased. Draw me in your presence. Lead me in your ways. I long to bring you glory in righteousness and praise. More like you, Jesus, more like you. Fill my heart with your desire to make me more like you. More like you, Jesus, more like you. Touch my lips with holy fire and make me more like you. Our Lord invites to his table all who love him, Who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another. Let us confess our sin before God and one another. Prayer of Confession and Pardon Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, We have rebelled against your love, preoccupied with ourselves, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cries of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Hear the good news; Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That proves God’s love for us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Bread and Cup Please take the bread. Please take the cup. Please pray: Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery in which “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” Strengthen us in mind, body and soul for the days ahead. Help us see, as Jesus did, beyond ourselves and our present circumstances. Teach us to trust you so that it may be “well with our souls.” Amen. *Commitment Hymn “It is Well with My Soul” When peace like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrow like sea billows roll. Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul. Refrain: It is well, with my soul. It is well, it is well with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, Though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control, That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed his own blood for my soul. Refrain: And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, The clouds be rolled back as a scroll, The trumpet shall sound, and the Lord shall descend, Even so, it is well with my soul. Refrain: Thank you for worshiping with us today!
