And may the blessing of God the All-Loving, Christ the Son, and the God the Holy Spirit be with you now and forevermore. This Advent season, may we go forth as people of living hope. May we live as if we believe God’s promises are true. Christ has come, and Christ will come again. Come, Lord Jesus! Amen. Self-Reflection Questions: 1. David and Nathan assumed building a temple would be pleasing in God’s sight, and they were wrong. What are my assumptions about what will be pleasing in God’s sight? Are those assumptions in line with God’s character? 2. David and Nathan wanted to confine God to a temple. How do I seek to confine God? 3. David and Nathan wanted to link God’s purposes with their own political and religious agendas. In what ways have I sought to link God’s purposes with my own political and religious agenda? 4. In their desire to build a temple to do something for God, David and Nathan unintentionally blocked what God actually wanted to do. Where is God wanting to do something that I am unintentionally blocking with my own desires? 5. God promised David to make a dynasty of him, and promised Israel that a Messiah would come from David’s line. That promise was fulfilled, but in unexpected ways. How do I see God at work (even in unconventional ways) today?
