Soon we will be called to worship. Please, prepare yourself:
  • Is your Bible handy?
  • Do you have a printed order of worship?
  • Do you have a candle that you can light as we begin?
  • Some of us like to have our offering available so it can be dedicated at the appropriate time in the service.
  • It's Communion Sunday, do you have your communion elements ready?

You will hear some instrumental music.
While listening, light the candle. Calm your soul. Take a few deep breaths. Pray, asking God to quiet you soul and remove any distractions that might impede our time of worship.

Let’s begin.

   ~~~
Prelude: “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” (Navy Hymn), William Whiting; Philip Keueren, arranger
Welcome and Announcements
Welcoming the Light of Christ – please light a candle
CALL TO WORSHIP
          Musical Interlude: “O Rest in the Lord,” Felix Mendelssohn
          Ringing the church bell
Hymn    "What a Friend We Have in Jesus”                   UMH #526
What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.
Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.
The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy universal church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Unison Invocation
Gracious and holy God,
Long ago, your people brought their gold to Aaron,
asking him to make an idol they could worship.
If we, your people, have become idolaters we humbly repent.
We ask that this time might correct our thinking and influence our actions.
We come to worship you and only you.
We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus, the Christ.
Amen.
Hymn   “Just a Closer Walk with Thee”                   TFWS #2158
I am weak, but thou art strong; Jesus keep me from all wrong;
I’ll be satisfied as long as I walk, let me walk close to thee.
Just a closer walk with thee; grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to thee; let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
Through this world of toil and snares, if I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my sorrow shares? None but thee, dear Lord, none but thee.
Pastoral Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
 Message       “Real Rest”    Matthew 11:28-30
 The Communion Service
Communion Hymn  “Open Our Eyes Lord”     TFWS #2086
Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus,
To reach out and touch him, and say that we love him.
Open our ears, Lord, and help us to listen.
Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus.
Invitation
Our Lord invites to his table all who love him,
Who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another.
Let us confess our sin before God and one another.
Prayer of Confession and Pardon
Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart.
Our faith has been tested and we have stumbled.
Forgive us, we pray.
Our feet have strayed from the path of Christ and we have wandered from you.
Forgive us, we pray.
We have put our faith in the loud voices of this world, ignoring your whispers.
Forgive us, we pray.
 We do want to follow Jesus, the Christ, in whose name we pray.
Amen.
Hear the good news;
Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That proves God’s love for us.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
Thanks be to God!
Bread and Cup
Communion Interlude: “As We Gather at Your Table,” Skinner Chavez-Melo
Please take the bread.
Please take the cup.
Please pray:
Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery
in which, “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
Strengthen us in mind, body and soul for the days ahead.
May your Spirit fill us as we live and pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
Unison Benediction
May the peace of the Lord Jesus go with you
wherever he may send you.
May he guide you through the wilderness,
protect you through the storm.
May he bring you home rejoicing
at the wonders he has shown you.
May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.
God be with you ‘til we meet again.
Postlude: “My Country ‘tis of Thee,” Samuel Smith, Philip Keveren, arranger
