Hi Everyone!
October 26, 2023 I hope you plan to bring your car and candy to our Trunk or Treat event on Halloween from 5:00-6:30! Decorate your car and wear a costume if you want but it certainly isn’t necessary. If you run out of candy, no worries, we have lots! It will be lots of fun. On Sunday, we are celebrating All Saints Day, a holiday in the church calendar when we remember the saints who have gone on before us. It’s not too late to submit the names of loved ones who have passed away so they can be mentioned in the service. Call the office or write the names down on Sunday before church. The UMM will be treating us to a chili and baked potato lunch on Sunday, November 12th right after church. Save the date and plan to come! Make sure to put December 1st on your calendar. It’s the date for our Winter Festival. As Glenora said last Sunday, it takes all of us to make it work. Sign up sheets will be available soon. Be thinking about what you can do to help. We don’t have a volunteer to organize Operation Christmas Child this year. If you’d like to build a shoebox, we can find a way to get it to the right place or you can build one on line for $25. Let me know if you need help with that. This Sunday will be the last day to contribute to a tip for our lawn guy Mahlon. The jar is on the table in the fellowship hall. Our praise songs for Sunday will be Cannons and All Who Are Thirsty. Click on the blue links and listen before Sunday if you can. We have some prayer requests this week. We heard from Catherine Fry that Russ Busey who was the secretary at PUMC had a stroke and is in the hospital. He lives in Eugene and plans to move into senior housing when he is released. Keep Russ in your prayers. Catherine is working on getting an address for us. Things are looking up for Carmen’s cousin Tory. He had successful surgery and now is able to stand! Keep praying for Tory. Kathryn Gordon asks us to pray baby Charlie who will be having heart surgery on December 5th. She is the great granddaughter of a childhood friend of Kathryn’s. My sister’s husband Bill will be going into hospice care very soon. He has an untreatable tumor in his lung. Please pray for Bill, my sister Carolyn and their kids Rick and Diane. Annie Crego’s mom Katie had knee replacement surgery last week. Pray for a quick, complete recovery. Keep these folks on your prayer list: Larry Jeffries, Jim Warzyn, Bob Maynard, Josh, Darby, Lis Williamson, Shannon Osborn, Olivia Bybee, Hugh Homan and the Taylors who are friends of the Boesch’s. Have a great rest of the week and we hope to see you on Sunday. Blessings, Cris Payette United Methodist Church

I have the best news! Teresa Beer is officially a grandma as of Wednesday evening. Wesley Kai Waynetska was born at 5:13 p.m. and weighs 7lbs 10oz. Teresa reports that he is perfect! I have seen pictures and I totally agree. Congrats to his parents Austin and Jalani and of course Teresa! I bought stamps at Costco and they are HOLIDAY stamps. It’s coming folks! The new November/December issue of The Upper Room is available in the entryway. The Ad Board met this week and I’ll update you about some highlights. Remember everyone is invited to these meetings. Our Winter Festival will be on Friday, December 1st this year. We are trying to avoid the festivities put on by the city on Saturday the 2nd. We desperately need a new nativity team to display all of our beautiful treasures. If you are willing to serve in this way, please call the office or tell Glenora. Our festival will still feature an Italian Style dinner, nativity tour, cake walk (for Shane), a craft for kids, baked goods, raffle baskets, silent auction items and more. Save the date and please plan to help. In the finance report we learned that with us switching from a ¼ time pastor to a full-time pastor is catching up with us financially. We brainstormed some ways to bring in more money so if you have ideas, please share them with someone on the Ad Board. Teresa Beer, one of our finance chairs will share information with the congregation in November. Our men’s group worked hard last Saturday on clearing the gravel from the playground. That small square had so much gravel! We will be working on this project again so if you have muscles and a shovel, please help us out. Thanks to everyone who helped and who will help in the future. The Boesches will host a Halloween Party on Saturday, October 28th at 5:00 p.m. Costumes are welcome but not required. Let’s make a good PUMC showing! John Sandquist asked me to let you know that he and his friend Dayton are barbecuing on October 23rd. All of the regular items are available. John asks that you sign up on the sheet at church so they know what to buy. You can also call John at 208-739-6497. If you haven’t had John’s BBQ, you should! Please plan to help us out with Trunk or Treat on Halloween from 5:00-6:30. Bring your trunk and some candy and make kids happy. Please let us know if you plan to come. Because of our congregation’s generosity, we have enough candy to keep our event going the whole 90 minutes! As always, thank you. Thanks to everyone who helped with Gary Williamson’s funeral. People stepped up to help and the family appreciated it. A big thank you to Dianne’s friend Marcia Gray who has helped us many times. I have a praise to share with you. Sharon and Ed Parsons celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last week. They must have married very young! Congrats Parsons! I have several prayer requests so I will list them this week. · I received word that Larry Jeffries is not doing well. He and Irene asked for our prayers. · Darby, Tony Irwin’s relative is unable to complete his treatment. · Ron Collingwood’s granddaughter in Libby, Montana passed away last week. · Butch, Sid Fry’s nephew has lung cancer and has started chemo. · Randy Wright, Catherine Fry’s brother is having a medical procedure and Catherine would appreciate prayers. · Bob Maynard has started chemo treatments and is struggling. · My sister Carolyn and her husband Bill both have rebound Covid. Bill has been hospitalized again. · Annie’s mom will have knee surgery very soon. · Bonnie Hall is recovering from knee replacement and is doing well. · Keep praying for Selby Wright and her kids. · My friend Susan asked us to pray for her because of complicated family issues. · James and Pastor Mary Beth ask for prayers for Faith and Grant. They have complicated family issues as well. · Please keep the family and friends of Daniella Perez whose life was tragically cut short last week in Ontario. · Let’s keep praying for peace in the Middle East and in Ukraine and for the families directly and indirectly impacted by these conflicts. · Pray that our leaders come together for the good of everyone and do the job that we elected them to do. · Pray for safe travels for Tony and Roxanne who have headed south for the winter. Bring them back safely to us! · Lyna asks for prayer for Margaret Fosberg who is starting chemo therapy to fight breast cancer. That’s a big prayer list but we all know that prayer works. This is the time of year that I always ask for help in thanking Mahlon, our yard guy for his hard work and extra attention. No church grounds look better than ours. If you’d like to help with sending him a tip, please put it in the jar on one of the next two Sundays. Cash works the best. He doesn’t expect this tip but will sure appreciate it. If you’d like to write him a note, I will get it to him. Enjoy these last few beautiful, perfect days of weather while they last. They are a gift. Blessings, Cris Payette United Methodist Church

Happy October to you all. October has always been one of my favorite months because the long hot days are gone and I love jacket weather. If you missed church on Sunday, you missed a good one. We had 13 dogs at our Blessing of the Pets service and it was SO great. We ended up having the service in the fellowship hall because of the rain and once the service started, the dogs all settled in and got quiet. Our pastor blessed each pet and family and it was very meaningful. Great idea Pastor Mary Beth! The Finance Committee will meet on Tuesday, October 10th at noon. The Dollar Offering collected this Sunday will be given to Rose Advocates. ROSE Advocates, Inc. is a confidential network offering resources to abused children & adults since 1988. We have some praises this week. Shane Wright’s Special Olympics golf team won the 3rd place medal last week at Eagle Hills Golf Course in Eagle. A special thanks to Mike Hall for mentoring Shane and being his golf companion. Caleb Smith started a new job last week. He is now working for a catering company besides being in the band, attending high school and helping us out whenever we ask! We heard from Steve Simonson’s family this week with the good news that he responded well from his chemo treatments and he is finished with them! Anne DeBord has returned from McCall! Her car has been repaired and is back in her garage. I’m sure we’ll see her in church soon! We have several prayer requests this week. Gary Williamson passed away last Thursday. As Pastor Mary Beth said, “May Gary rest in peace and rise in glory.” His funeral will be here at PUMC on Friday, October 13th at 11:00 a.m. We may need some help. We have been praying for Laurie who is a relative of the Hood’s. She was burned badly in the wildfire in Maui. She passed away last week. Please keep her family in your prayers. Ron’s brothers and sisters traveled to see their brother Jim in Kenosha, Wisconsin this week. Jim is in hospice care. Please pray for a meaningful time for the siblings and a safe trip home for them. She has many broken bones and is in ICU in Boise. Please pray for all those involved in the accident. Lyna asked that we pray for Bob Maynard from Benton City, Washington who has been diagnosed with lymphoma of his spleen. This disease is moving fast and Bob needs our prayers. Last week I asked you to pray for the Hood’s grandson Josh Seals. He has been diagnosed with Hodkin’s Lymphoma. His doctors told him to get married and go on his honeymoon before starting treatments! Bonnie Hall had knee replacement surgery this morning. She is out of surgery and in recovery as I send this newsletter. Please keep Bonnie in your prayers! Keep praying for Glenora’s granddaughter Selby after the loss of her husband Johnny. Keep praying for their children Gray and Gus and for Johnny’s parents and brother. My sister’s husband Bill who has COPD and is oxygen dependent now has Covid. He is in the ICU and also has pneumonia and a blood clot in his lung. Their daughter Diane has Covid as well. If you would pray for their whole family, I’d sure appreciate it. From the prayer chain Karen Sagehorn asked us to pray for her friend Linda and her husband. Their son is an addict and has been abusive to them. They have changed the locks in their doors and have chosen to not let him return to their home. Karen asks for God’s strength to follow through on these choices for them and for their other son Kyle who has a terminal diagnosis. He supports his parents with their decision. Ron and I will be going to Utah on Wednesday afternoon for a few days to help out our daughter Tess and my sister Carolyn. I won’t be in the office on Thursday but our pastor will be here. We’ll be sorry to miss the neighborhood carnival, the invite someone new to church Sunday and most of all the potluck! Danny will be missing church here at PUMC for two Sundays and Lyna Wilkins has stepped up to teach the Sunday School class on September 24th but Sunday school will be canceled on October 1st. Danny is very pleased with the turnout for Sunday School this season. It’s never too late to join! PUMC needs someone to chair the Operation Christmas Child program this year. If you are willing to be in charge of this wonderful program, please let me know. There are lots of materials available to get you started. I hope you have noticed that the area just east of the church has been cleaned out! It was full of weeds and a dangerous play structure. The trustees and the UMM will work together to plant grass in that space and make it look a lot better. We will be working on this project on Saturday, October 14th right after the UMM breakfast meeting. That should be around 10:30. We’d love to have your help if that sounds like something you could do! Bring your own shovel! If have any materials to help with this project, we’ll take them. (grass seed, rainbird sprinklers, funny pipe etc.) Sunday, October 1st we will be celebrating the Feast of St. Francis by having an outdoor service and blessing our pets! Bring your pets to church! Our dog Champ will love this. He thinks every human was put on Earth to pet him. If you don’t think it’s wise to bring your pet to church there will be a blessing given for pets that were left home. Save the date of Saturday, October 28th. The Boesch’s are inviting us to a Halloween Party. I received a nice note from Dennis Froeming this week. He and his wife Sharon live in Boise and are doing well. They attend a Presbyterian and he has recently become an Deacon. It was good hearing from him! We have some prayer requests this week: Please keep Hugh Homan and the Williamsons in your prayers. Lis and Gary have been in touch and send their love. Gary is at peace. Carmen Kumagai’s cousin Tory was hurt at work and has had surgery and will face more in the future. He is off the ventilator and is smiling. Please keep him on your prayer list for a bit. My friend Susan lost her mother this week. Please keep Susan and her siblings in your prayers as they navigate without their mom. Another friend of mine, Luann asked us to pray for her brand-new grandnephew Miles. He was born just under 2 pounds. He will need prayers for a while. Danny asks us to pray for his sister-in-law Ellie. She has lost her place to live and is looking for something affordable. I received word from Jean Hershey this week that they are all feeling better and when I asked about Terry, she said he is half way through his treatments and is well enough to run a 10K with Mark and his son Evan on the 23rd. Go Hersheys! Please keep these folks on your prayer list: Shannon Osborn, Mary Boesch, Olivia Bybee, Steve Simonson, Laurie, Jim Warzyn and Teresa’s soon to be born grandson. While We Sing is our new praise song this week. Please click on the link and listen in. Have a great rest of your week. Remember to invite someone new to church this week and bring something delicious to the potluck! Blessings, Cris Payette United Methodist Church

Pastor Mary Beth has the following announcement: On Monday, September 18th from 9:00 AM-4:30 PM, there will be a Soul Shop for Leaders at Meridian UMC. This is a one-day workshop designed to equip faith community leaders to minister to those impacted by suicide. This includes the creation of worship resource, training congregation members in suicide awareness and basic conversation skills, and the how to extend the invitation to those who have been suicidal in the past to share their stories. This workshop engages the question of how to cultivate a soul-safe culture within your congregation. I will be attending it, and if you are interested in going, too, you can register by clicking on this blue link. The cost is $50 and lunch is provided. If you sign up, we can carpool to and from. During this season, we remember that God is still God in the simple, ordinary, and mundane. The color for this season is green to signify new life and growth; it reminds us that even in the ordinary, God is at work making all things new. Hi Everyone! August 31, 2023
I am reminded this week of how blessed I am to live in Idaho where we don’t have hurricanes! The people in Florida and the south are struggling and our weather is just about perfect. Disaster relief is spread thin between Hawaii and Florida. Keep all those affected in your prayers. Last Sunday we were privileged to have Kathryn Tompkins and Lizzy Briggs speak about their experiences and what they learned at Young Life Camp. It’s very clear that they are learning the right things! Good job girls! When Roxanne went to the credit union this week with the deposit, they almost rejected a few checks! They no longer will allow us to write PUMC on our checks. We will have to write out Payette United Methodist Church on the to line. Speaking of PUMC, we were featured on the GNW Area Communications last week. They interviewed Pastor Mary Beth and I a couple of weeks ago for the story. Click on the blue link and read the story. It makes us sound great and very smart! Thanks for being the best congregation on the planet! There will be no Monday Morning Coffee With the Pastor this week. It will resume on September 11th. On Sunday, Carmen and Marcy let us know that Grace Hammon just celebrated her 93rd birthday. Happy Birthday Grace! Please sign up to help with our Neighborhood Carnival on Saturday, September 23rd. Find the clipboard on Sunday or call the office and I’ll sign you up. Invite someone new to church on Sunday, September 24th. Let’s find some folks that need a church family and need to hear the good news! We will have a potluck afterward. Love INC is hosting a fundraiser on Thursday, September 28th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Ontario Calvary Chapel. It will feature a dessert bar, live music, raffle, silent auction and special speaker, Sting Ray Robb, a local kid who won the 2020 Indy Pro 2000 and Vice Champion in the 2022 Indy Lights. You can buy tickets by calling 541-216-6116 or get more info at www.loveincoreida.org. We have prayer requests this week. Please continue to pray for Gary and Lis Williamson and their family. The Hood’s relative, Lori who was burned badly in the fires on Maui has taken a turn for the worse and really needs our prayers right now. Ron’s brother Jim had a PET scan last week and learned that the cancer has spread. He is consulting with his doctors to see what his new plan is. Keep Jim and the whole Warzyn family in your prayers please. Karen Sagehorn is asking for prayers for a friend of her neighbor, Kenny who fell and is injured. He may need surgery and would like prayers for wisdom for his medical team. Ron is recovering nicely from his knee replacement surgery. He is walking with a cane now and getting around pretty well. He thanks you for your prayers. Continue to pray for Terry Hershey, Steve Simonson, Olivia Bybee, Hugh Homan, Jean Pollock, Macy Steckley, Mary Boesch, Teresa’s stepdad Larry and her grandson, and Shannon Osborn. We hope to see you in church on Sunday! Blessings, Cris |
