Hi Everyone!                                                            October 31, 2024
Happy Halloween to you! Tis the season to give candy and we are ready. I put all the candy on a cart and it is ready to go for Trunk or Treat. We hope to see a bunch of you come down to help us out. Please arrive by 4:30 to prepare for the onslaught of kids that are sure to come. If you didn’t get to the store to buy candy, we have enough to share.
This weekend is the end of daylight savings time. Remember to set your clocks back one hour when you go to bed Saturday night. It will be light again in the mornings but whoa…. dark early in the evenings. I’d be a fan of just leaving the time be what it is but it has been happening since I was 10 years old. It probably won’t change anytime soon.
Save a couple of dates on Sundays please. On Sunday, Nov. 10th the United Methodist Men will be serving a taco lunch right after church and the women’s group will be serving the ever-popular ice cream sundae bar again! It will all be delicious for sure. A basket for a free will offering will be available. The other Sunday to remember is November 24th. We will be “hanging the greens”. Please plan to stay and help us decorate. “Many hands make light work”- Edna Rice
If you would like to donate a basket or silent auction item for the Winter Festival, please let me know or tell Glenora directly. We need to get these items nailed down so we can continue planning. Tickets for the baskets will go on sale in a couple of weeks.
Jeanie Hershey called a few days ago just to catch up. She reports that the Hersheys are just fine. She prays for us and knows we pray for her family. Keep it up!
Thanks everyone for your generous tips for Mahlon, our lawn guy. We collected $200 for Mahlon and his family. This is a great time to have a little extra money for a guy with a wife and three kids. They will be thankful.
I received word that our own Caleb Smith was accepted to Boise State University to start in the fall. I don’t know for sure but I just bet he’ll be in the band. Congrats to Caleb!
We have quite a few prayer requests this week. Dennis Haren’s son Kurtis, age 33 passed away last week in Old Town, Idaho which is in Bonner County. A celebration of Kurt’s life will be held later. Please pray for his whole family.
Glenora Wright’s brother Jim was recently hospitalized with blood clots. He is back home but is still needing our prayers. He lives in Nevada.
Brandon Baumler and his sons are traveling to the Midwest for his grandfather’s funeral. Please pray for save travels for the Baumler guys.
Brandon’s kids’ great grandmother is struggling to breathe and has COPD. Keep her in your prayers.
Dalyce Knight’s friend Carol Haney’s son Kenny passed away this week. Please keep Carol and her family in your prayers.
I received word this week that Shannon Osborn had surgery recently and it has been a trying recovery. Please keep Shannon and her mom Sue in your prayers.
Ron Warzyn asked for prayers for his brother Jerry who has adult-onset Muscular Dystrophy. Walking is very hard for him as well as swallowing. Keep Jerry in your prayers.
Laura Tompkins reports that her mom Kathryn Gordon is doing very well after surgery. Amen to that. Pray that she continues to heal completely.
A few weeks ago, I asked for you to pray for Landon Warner, a former student of mine who at 18 was found to have a large tumor in his abdomen. At first his doctors in California thought he was a candidate for surgery but now feel that at this time it would be best to leave it alone. The tumor is slow growing and is benign. He now has a doctor in Boise who will monitor his health. This is an answer to prayer to Landon and his family. Thanks for your prayers.
We had a very touching All Saints Day service on Sunday. I definitely teared up a few times when the names of our saints were read. Our pastor prepared a very heartfelt service.
This is something that Pastor Mary Beth told us on Sunday. “Christian hope is… God with us. Christ is with us in suffering and cries with us when we cry”.  I know He rejoices with us when we are happy. How blessed are we to have Him.
Blessings,
Cris
PS Next Tuesday is Election Day and I will be working the polls at the American Legion Building so I will not be in the office. Precinct #1 is here at PUMC so the building will be open all day.
