Hi Everyone!                                                June 20, 2024
I’ve been loving these few days of cool weather but I see that not everyone feels the same. Joan from the exercise class showed up on Tuesday in a full-on winter coat! I had to laugh since I thought the weather was glorious! Soon we’ll be longing to put a coat or a sweatshirt on.
We had an Ad. Board Meeting on Monday evening so I’ll start by updating you on what we learned there. We will have an annual checkup with the District Superintendent, Karen Hernandez on Saturday, August 24th at 2:30. Ad Board members and SPR folks, please put that on your calendar. Everyone is welcome to attend the check in. Middleton UMC will join us here.
The Finance Committee reported that our giving has been consistently low for the past few months. We know that the prices for groceries, gas and just about everything have been high and that affects us. Starting in July our pastor will be half time and that will help with our expenses. We will revisit this issue every month and will keep you informed.
Our annual School Supply Fair will be the morning of Saturday, August 3rd. Please save the date since we’ll need all hands-on deck. We are just getting organized but we do know we’ll need money. We have $85.00 and very few supplies left over. If you’d like to donate money for our important event please write School Supply Fair on the memo line on your check. We appreciate it.
The SPR Committee will meet on Tuesday, June 25th at 7:00 p.m. All members of this committee are encouraged to attend.
If you are on the texting prayer chain, you probably have noticed that it has been a bit messed up. There is a limit to how many people can be on a text chain. James is working with Glenora to get it cleaned up. If you are not on the chain and want to be, please let me know. Hopefully it will be fixed very soon.
Details about the golf tournament are finalized for next Tuesday and it will be a lot of fun. The UMM added a fun poker run for the golfers and lunch only people. Arrive by noon if you want to join in. There is no cost for the poker run.
We will have a potluck lunch on Sunday, June 30th. It will be Pastor Mary Beth’s last Sunday as our fulltime pastor and face it, we love food! This will be a traditional potluck so bring whatever you’d like. It will be delicious!
On Saturday, July 13th we are planning a BBQ and will invite Middleton UMC. It will be starting at 1:00 so please save the date.  We are asked to bring side dishes, salad and desserts.
Since we aren’t having Sunday School this summer, the coffee shop is opening a bit later. If you need an exact time, please ask Mike Hall or Ed Parsons.
Mike and Bonnie Hall don’t have access to email anymore. Please call them when you need to get in touch. Mike’s cell phone accepts text messages.
Danny asked us to consider donating to a classmate of his from Santa Monica, California. He was accepted into Vanderbilt Divinity School and received a generous scholarship. He is an immigrant from Pakistan and has successfully navigated a complicated past. He needs help with lodging for his family. His local church has set up an account to help pay his living expenses. If you’d like to contribute to this man of God, please put your donation into the blessing pitcher which will be out for two weeks. If you you’d like to pay with a check, please make it out to PUMC and write refugee in the memo line. Glenora will write a check to his church for the total amount of the donation. Cash is fine too.  If you can’t give you can pray for this family, please pray for Anjlo, Lubna and their 8-year-old daughter Mojza.
Sheri Hood has been in touch with the Osborns recently and found out that Shannon has moved from the care center in Weiser and is living with her mom, Sue. Keep them both in your prayers.
I have an update from the Parsons about their grandson John Bell. He is still in the ICU but is able to sit up for a bit and can breathe on his own but it is painful with broken ribs and a collapsed lung. This will be a long recovery for John. Keep his whole family in your prayers.
Danny’s mom, Karen is home from the hospital but still has breathing issues. Keep her in your prayers.
Pastor Mary Beth’s mom Nancy has been hospitalized with a bacterial infection. She is responding to antibiotics and had surgery on Wednesday. She will get another round of antibiotics and should be home in a few days. Keep Nancy and Scott in your prayers.
Jana Schaffeld had a fall while taking her dog Dallas on a walk. It was all Dallas’ fault according to my source. Pray for quick and complete healing for Jana. Dallas is just fine!
Please keep these folks on your prayer list: Clarity, Noah Howard, the Taylor Family, Peyton, Anne DeBord, Jill Hanigan, Irene Jeffries, Lis Williamson, Hugh Homan, Jerry Hall and Grace Hammon.
James and Pastor Mary Beth are in Tigard, Oregon for the UMC Annual Conference. Please keep them in your prayers as well as all the people traveling for this important conference. Danny Crego will step up to lead us this Sunday as well as deliver the sermon.
As we heard from our pastor last Sunday, she is sometimes asked this question. “Have we failed? Why can’t we keep a full-time pastor?” We have not failed. We continue to serve our community and our church. We will continue to do just that and we will be just fine! Count on it!
I hope to see you on Sunday. Let’s fill those pews!
Blessings,
Cris
