Hi Everyone!
I’m baaaaack! I started back to work on Tuesday morning and am doing OK. Knee replacement surgery is no joke and I admire everyone who has had this surgery before me. I’ll start with very sad news. On Sunday Glenora received a call from Sharon Parsons telling us that Ed passed away peacefully that morning. It certainly wasn’t a shock but it’s still hard. Ed and I go back a long way. He was on the school board when I was teaching here and then was my general when I was in the National Guard. When Ron, the kids are I started attending church at PUMC in 2005 we were reconnected and we became friends. I kept calling him General and Sir and he kept telling me to call him Ed. I finally got used to that. Ed loved his family, his church family and our country and he was proud of all three. When I talked to him about a week ago, he asked me if we had enough weed killer. I assured him we did and that we’d take care of the grounds. He said, “I know you will.” So, one of his last thoughts was about us. He and I talked about death several times and we agreed that we aren’t afraid to die. He was ready and had every single duck in a row. He will be missed forever but know that he is in heaven. His funeral will be here at PUMC on Wednesday, July 2nd at 11:00 a.m. Please keep Sharon and the whole family in your prayers. I was notified today that we will have a Charge Conference here at PUMC on Thursday, July 10th at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to approve pastor compensation for our new pastor. I wasn’t told who the pastor will be just that we will have one. The District Superintendent’s assistant assured me that we would be told soon from the pulpit. We are all invited to attend the Charge Conference. It’s not too early to pray for our new pastor! On Saturday, July 5th we will have a boy scout troop from Sandy, UT spending the night at our church. They are going to a camp in Oregon and must spend the night somewhere on the way home and they chose us! They come from Hilltop Methodist Church which is just a short distance from my daughter Tess’ house. If you’d like to bring treats for them that would be great. You can get them to me before the 4th of July holiday. There will be a total of 28 including adults. Our Fit and Fall Proof instructors will be adding a class on Wednesdays soon. They were to begin on July 2nd but the church will be full because of the funeral for Ed. I think you can plan on them adding the Wednesday class the following week, July 9th from 9:30-10:30. All are welcome for any and all sessions. If you have questions, give me a call. The July/August edition of the Upper Room is available in regular or large print size in the entryway. If you need helping getting one, please let me know. We are having a baby shower to shower our baby Brigit with gifts this Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Glenora’s house. It will be fun! We will have a potluck lunch after church this Sunday. The men’s group will furnish chicken and we are asked to bring side dishes and salads. Cake will be provided. Bring something delicious! We will be celebrating baptisms, Danny’s commissioning and a see you later to Pastor Mary Beth and James. Please plan to come to church and enjoy lunch. I talked to Anne DeBord a few days ago. She is getting settled in for the summer at her home in McCall. She has a new caregiver who is doing a good job and is an excellent cook. If you go to McCall, give Anne a call and go visit her. She’d love it. Doris Homan was back in church on Sunday after her bad fall. She is happy to be out of skilled nursing and back in her apartment. Pray for no more drama for Doris! Glenora’s great grandson Gus who is almost three years old and had swelling in his throat and nasal passages. He was admitted to the hospital in Baker City. Keep Gus and his family in your prayers. Carmen’s mom Grace spent some time in the emergency room this week but is well enough to be back in her apartment at Brookdale. Keep Grace in your prayers. Dalyce Knight is driving to Portland this weekend to visit with Dave’s family since his brother is nearing the end of his life. Pray for safe travels for Dalyce and for her little dog Cricket who will be boarded. Brandon Baumler took his two sons and niece Serenity on a road trip with a final destination of Minnesota where his family lives. He has lots of activities planned for the he and the kids along the way. Pray for an excellent trip and safe travels! We will celebrate the baptisms of Kaysia and Eddielynn Aguilera this Sunday. The baptism liturgy is so beautiful and reminds us all about our own baptisms. I hope you are looking forward to it. See you then! Blessings, Cris
