Hi Everyone! March 27, 2025
This will be a short newsletter this week. My whining about weeping willow trees turned into pneumonia last week and I have been sick! I have been pretty healthy since I retired as a kindergarten teacher so this caught me unaware. I’m steadily getting better and Ron is taking good care of me. The UMM will be making lunch for us this Sunday after church. I am told it will be a taco feed and ice cream bar so come hungry and plan to join us for lunch. Danny Crego will be teaching a Wesleyan Class on Fridays starting on Friday, May 2nd. Please talk to him about this class if you are interested. Danny is excited about it so I know it will be great. Don’t forget that this Sunday is UMCOR Sunday. All money collected will be sent to UMCOR for administration costs for the rest of the year so that you know that anything you give the rest of the year goes directly where you want it to go. If you write a check, just write UMCOR Sunday on the memo line. You can include it in your regular offering, just indicate it on the check. Our fabulous finance crew will get it to the right place. Leslie Olson asks us to pray for her kids and grandkids as they travel to Washington DC and NYC this spring break. Pray for their safety. Keep Shane Wright in your prayers as his foot heals. He is still supposed to keep off of it as much as possible. Pray for him to find the correct balance. Our local kids are out of school this week. Keep the kids, parents and teachers in your prayers this week as always. Pray for much needed rest for all three groups! Please pray for Weston Tuckness, a student at PHS. He has a rare type of very aggressive stage 4 lymphoma cancer. After many rounds of chemotherapy, he is now facing radiation and stem-cell replacement. He is Lonnie Tuckness’ grandson. Catherine Fry’s nephew Butch passed away on Sunday night. Please keep Butch’s entire family in your prayers as they grieve. Keep our nation in your prayers as we go through these rough times. Please remember to bring Easter candy to church with you as soon as you can along with prizes for the prize eggs. You can donate money if you’d rather have us shop for you. The Easter Egg Hunt will be on Saturday. April 12th. We will need volunteers. We are making plans to honor our graduating seniors on Sunday, May 18th. Our own Kathryn, Caleb and Lizzy will all be going to universities! We will be putting the blessing pitcher out for them closer to the time. Be sure and make plans to join us on May 18th. Enjoy the spring weather and we hope to see you in church. Blessings, Cris Here are the last of the Praying the Psalms March 27th Psalm 120-131, March 28th Psalm 132-138, March 29th Psalm 139-143 and March 30th Psalm 144-150 Payette United Methodist Church

The point of Lent is to remember the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness while he was fasting (and he was tempted). This season also recalls the events that led up to Jesus' crucifixion. Lent lasts around 40 days (excluding Sundays) between Ash Wednesday and Holy Saturday. The color for this season is purple, which symbolizes royalty. Bob Steckley, Anne DeBord and Sharon Parsons all had falls at home last week. I keep saying NO more falling but that hasn’t helped. Don’t forget we have an exercise group for men and women that meets here Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. for prevention of falls. It is totally free and you can work at your own level. When I walk through the fellowship hall once in a while I can see progress from each member. The leader, Karen Sagehorn will help customize the exercises just for you. Why not consider joining the Fit and Fall Proof Class next week? The Trustee Committee will meet on Monday, March 17th at 6:15 in the fireside room with the Ad Board following at 7:00. Everyone is invited to attend both of these meetings. Mike and Bonnie Hall made it home safely from Arizona this week. They had a great time. Tony and Roxanne will travel home starting on Sunday. They are having a great time in their rental house that has a fence for Ashley. Pray for safe travels for them. I have good news about Grace Hammon and her sister Jo. Jo is recovering nicely from her bout with the flu but has a lingering cough. Grace didn’t get the flu even though they share a space at Brookdale. Good job Grace! Pray for good health for the both of them! Catherine Fry’s nephew Butch is in hospice care. He has been fighting the good fight for a couple of years. Please pray for Butch and his family, his wife Catherine, and his two children. He was hoping to make it to hold his first grandchild this July, but it is not to be. Mike Hall’s sister-in-law Jeanette fell from bleachers in Arizona and both of her legs are broken! She will have to stay in Arizona for a while to recuperate in rehab. Pray for a quick recovery for Jeanette. Dalyce’s neighbors Don and Carol Haney are in need of prayer. They lost their son Kenny a few weeks ago. Don just had knee replacement surgery and now his mom just passed away. They have a had a rough couple of months. Keep this family in your prayers. Gary Olson will start his radiation treatments soon. He will have them in Fruitland every week day for 28 total treatments. Keep Gary and Leslie in your prayers as they put up this fight! Sarah Greif Olson passed away last week. She found out she had cancer and less than two weeks later she passed away. PUMC will host her funeral on Saturday, March 22nd at 11:00 a.m. It is expected that it will be well attended. If you can help, please contact Glenora or me. Laura Tompkins works in Social Services and asks us to pray for her clients and those around the country as they fear that services will be cut by our current administration. Along the same theme, special services for school children may be next for cuts. This would include special education students, English language learners and so many more. I’m certainly no expert but I love kids and know that the disruption isn’t good for anyone. Please hold this situation in prayer. Lyna Wilkins asks us to pray for Amy Nelson. She just started chemotherapy. Pastor Mary Beth will take her second Praxis exam this Thursday afternoon and asks us to pray for her. She hasn’t heard about her score from the first one yet because it contained written answers that must be scored by a human! Keep these folks in your prayers: Ed Parsons, Megan Palmer, Lis Williamson, Grace Hammon and Jo, Irene Jeffries, Shane Wright, Todd Lambert, Danny Crego. Pastor Mary Beth has been focusing on the Psalms during lent. She encourages us to pray the psalms during lent. There is a guide available in the entryway for us to follow.
