Hi Everyone! February 27, 2025
I told you that spring was right around the corner! The melting snow and sunshine make me happy. If we didn’t have winter, we wouldn’t appreciate spring. That’s what I’ve always told myself anyway. We noticed that Caldwell didn’t have any snow a few days ago so we must have been the lucky snow people. I want to clear up something I said in the newsletter last week about Danny. In June at Annual Conference he will be commissioned as an deacon. It’s not any more or less impressive than what I said, I just want to be correct. It’s a big deal. When the time comes, we will make sure you can view the ceremony at the church and support him in that way. If you’d enjoy a drive to Salem, you can go in person because we are all invited. If you are interested in being a delegate to Annual Conference, please tell our pastor. We need someone to fill the role. Weiser Little Theater’s new play is ready to go! They will be presenting Bedlam & Breakfast starting April 10th. The dinner performance will cost $30 and the dessert only play will cost $20. These plays are always so great. The poster is on the bulletin board. Get your tickets quickly! Just google Weiser Little Theater and click on the ticket link or call (208) 549-9355. Leave a message and they will call you back. We will pass around signup sheets on Sunday for greeters/ushers and liturgists. Please sign up if you can. Pastor Mary Beth will take her Praxis exam on Thursday. She will pass this test as part of the teacher certification process. Please keep our pastor in your prayers Thursday afternoon. Ron Hershey is having gall bladder surgery this morning. (Thursday) Pray for a successful surgery and a quick recovery. Deanna Carr asks us to pray for her friend Barb Harlan’s mom. She is 95 years old and has a bad cold. Please pray that it stays minor. Lyna Wilkins’ nephew Todd has been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Please keep Todd in your prayers. Keep praying for Lyna’s cousin George and his family. Lyna’s friend Charles lost his only daughter because of an aneurism last week. She leaves behind two sons one of whom is disabled. Please keep this family in your prayers. Shane Wright had a follow up with the doctor about his broken foot on Tuesday. He will have to stay in his boot for three more weeks and then will be checked again. Pray for patience for Shane and his mom! Ed Parsons was feeling well enough to drop by the church last Thursday to donate some lawn supplies and fold the bulletins. It was great seeing him. Keep him in your prayers. Danny Crego asks us to pray for him. He is in a season of transition. Pray for guidance and success for Danny. Please keep praying for our country and world. We are going through challenging times, and prayer is the way to go. Keep these folks on your prayer list: 2nd grader Emma, Voni King, Gary Olson, Chuck Kinney, Irene Jeffries, Grace Hammon, Lis Williamson and Dennis. Our sermon on Sunday was from 1 Corinthians 15:35-38 and 42-50. If you missed it, I encourage you to read these passages. This is what I took away from it. God promises the resurrection so that’s what he will do. Life is worth living and we must always look for hope! That’s all good news! Blessings, Cris

I will start this letter with excellent news this week! Our own Danny Crego passed his interview with flying colors and will be ordained in the Methodist Church in Salem, OR in June! Danny has been on quite a journey but remained faithful and kept his eye on the prize. We think his ordination will be lived streamed from Salem and if so, we can meet at the church and watch it. Great job Danny, we are proud of you! Nick Tompkins graduated Air Force Basic Training in San Antonio, Texas last week with his parents David and Laura there to witness it. Great job Nick! He is now at Shepard Air Force Base in Texas attending technical school. Keep Nick in your prayers. Sheri and Rodger Hood’s relative Meegan for whom we have been praying has beaten cancer! She rang the bell last week. Thanks everyone for your faithful prayers. Amen! (I just love starting a letter with good news!) The March/April edition of the Upper Room is available in the entryway. If you need help getting one, please let me know. On Sunday we had a glitch with the sound on Pastor Mary Beth’s greeting and sermon. We could see her but couldn’t hear a word. We still aren’t sure what happened. So, here’s what happened next. Danny Crego stepped up and covered the whole service including an excellent sermon. We are so lucky to have Danny in our church family. We have some prayer requests this week. Gary Olson will begin radiation treatments for prostate cancer in Fruitland soon. Keep Gary in your prayers as he fights this battle. Shane Wright is getting around well in his boot and we hope his foot is healing. He will have a checkup soon to find out. Keep him in your prayers. Lyna’s cousin George is in hospice care and is very weak. Please keep George, his wife Leslie and their family in your prayers. Brandon Baumler’s kids’ Great Uncle Dennis was able to come home last week after his jaw surgery but then experienced bleeding and was taken to a Boise hospital for time but is now back at home. Keep Dennis in your prayers. I heard from Anne DeBord that Deanna fell a few days ago and is banged up. Keep Deanna in your prayers. Don’t forget that we will have a delicious lunch after church this Sunday. The men will be serving Kalua Pork, scalloped potatoes and green beans. The women will have an ice cream bar ready to go. A basket will be put out for donations. Have a great rest of the week and we hope to see you on Sunday. Blessings, Cris Payette United Methodist Church

I’m sorry about the snow! I bragged that in January we didn’t have snow, sent the email and it started snowing. Yes, we did have to have the parking lot plowed. I’ll try not to brag again but no promises. The United Methodist Men will have their monthly breakfast meeting at Erika’s Kitchen on Saturday, February 8th at 9:00 a.m. All men are invited to attend. We are hosting Lifeline Screening in the church on Tuesday, February 18th all day. The office will be open from 8-11 on that day. The Finance Committee will meet on Tuesday, February 11th at noon in the Fellowship Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting. We are invited to attend a surprise 91st birthday open house for Ed Parsons this Saturday from 2-5 at his son Tom’s home. His address is 10710 Scotch Pines Road. His lane is just to the north of Ed and Sharon’s house. There will most likely be a balloon tied to the mailbox so you will know where to turn. Sharon says we can’t bring anything. Please don’t bring gifts but cards are great! Let’s turn out for this event! Remember shhhhhh, it's a surprise. David and Laura Tompkins made their way to San Antonio, Texas for Nick’s graduation from Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base. He graduated on Wednesday. Congrats to Nick from your church family! There are lots of people in our congregation who know just how hard it was. We have some prayer requests this week. Gary Olson has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He will have more tests on Thursday. Please keep Gary and Leslie in your prayers. Serenity, Camryn and Levi’s great uncle Dennis had successful surgery in Portland last week. He was in surgery for 15 hours but they were able to remove all the cancer. His prognosis is good. Pray for complete healing for Dennis. Lyna’s cousin George learned that he has stage 4 stomach cancer. Please keep George and his wife Leslie in your prayers during this difficult time. Danny Crego asks us to pray for his brother. He was checked into alcohol rehab and two days later checked himself out against clinical advice. Please pray for him to make a turn and get well. Miracles happen. Keep these folks in your prayers: Ed Parsons and his family, Chuck Kinney, Grace Hammon, Voni King, Irene Jeffries, Lis Williamson, Garry Jones. Please keep our country in your prayers. Everything is so volatile and people are anxious. Bless and be blessed. God’s light lives in us. He gives everyone of us the gift to bless others. To honor Him is to use this gift and change the world. Cris Payette United Methodist Church
February 2, 2025 – 11:00 AM We are currently in the Season after Epiphany, which lasts for several weeks starting with the Feast of the Epiphany (January 6th) and ending on Ash Wednesday. This season is a distinct season in which we continually celebrate that Christ is for ALL people. The colors for this season are green and gold. Welcome Passing the Peace “Family of God” Hymn: “Freely, Freely” UMH#389 vs. 1,2 “Something Beautiful” UMH#394 Call to Worship - Sharon Wada One: You promised to send your messenger to prepare the way, and the Lord they seek will suddenly come to the temple. The messenger of the covenant is coming, as you have declared, O Lord of Hosts. Who can endure the day of your coming? Who can stand when you appear? Many: The messenger is like a refiner’s fire or a cleanser’s soap. God’s messenger will purify the people, refining them like gold and silver, so that they will belong to the Lord and present righteous offerings. One: The offerings of your people will be pleasing to the Lord, just as in days gone by. Many: Just as Jesus lived his life as an offering to all people, so will we seek to do the same by doing justice, embracing faithful love, and walking humbly with you God. Amen. Opening Prayer (in unison) - Sharon Wada God of all nations, peoples and cultures, you led the Magi to your love by the light of a star. Through this story, we know your love is destined for all. Guide us in the new ways of your Son. Let your light shine everywhere, that all people may praise you in their own way, and enrich your Church with their own gifts. Amen.
