Hi Everyone! January 30, 2025
It looks like we made it through January with very little snow here in the valley. I’m OK with that because it is very expensive to plow the church parking lot! We do have snow in the mountains which we rely on to fill our reservoirs each year. We had a baked potato with chili lunch last Sunday which was delicious and fun. For dessert we had an ice cream bar provided by our women’s group. All $253 will be sent to UMCOR and designated to go to California Fire restoration. Your generosity is appreciated! We are in need of some volunteers! Can you forward slides during church and learn to turn the soundboard on and adjust it when necessary? Ron, Teresa and I would love to have backups to cover for us when we aren’t in church. Please get in touch with us if you are willing to help us out. Can you come early to the church and help Mike get the snacks ready for the coffee shop? He could use a helping hand getting everything ready. If you feel like this is something you can do, please talk to Mike and he’ll let you know what time to be here. The Payette Nazarene Church will be having their wild game feed on Saturday, Feb. 8th at 5:30. The tickets can be purchased at the door for $10. Unfortunately, this is a men’s only dinner. Dianne Kinney reminds us to stay well this winter. Get your vaccines, wash your hands, keep your hands away from your face, stay home if you are sick and stay away from sick people! This area has a lot of viruses going around this time of year. Be well! Our own Caleb Smith has earned $42,000 in scholarships to Boise State next year! He has applied for more scholarships so please keep him in your prayers! Go gettem Caleb!!! Jana Schaffeld was back in church on Sunday. She is still recovering from several broken ribs and a broken arm but she looked great! Welcome back Jana! We have been praying for Lyna’s friend Peggy Roach for several months now and she came to church with Lyna last Sunday. It was nice to put a face with the name finally! She brought her beautiful German Shepard service dog with her but I don’t think the Hood’s Sadie liked it much. PUMC is her church! Pam and Pastor Jim Hardenbrook had a safe trip to their new home in Virginia a couple of weeks ago. Jim said they had beautiful blue skies and no travel worries. We wish you well Pam and Jim! Please pray for the families of the folks who died in the terrible plane crash on Wednesday night. 67 people were tragedy lost including the three in the helicopter. We have a few other prayer requests this week. Keep praying for Lyna’s cousin George as he fights cancer. Ron’s brother Jerry who has adult-onset MD is having mobility issues. Keep Jerry in your prayers. Carmen Kumagai’s cousin Tory turned 61 last week and had a stint put in his heart all on the same day. Please keep Tory in your prayers. Continue to pray for: Irene Jeffries, Lis Williamson, Nick Tompkins in basic training, Garry Jones, Grace Hammon, Meegan, Ed Parsons, Lyna’s cousin George, Chuck Kinney, Voni King and Megan Palmer Did you hear that we had another school shooting last week? Devastatingly, these events have become so commonplace that we don’t hear much about them. A high school girl and the shooter were both killed. Gun violence in schools continues to devastate communities and leave families shattered, sparking urgent calls for stronger safety measures as well as for a deeper national conversation about how to address the root causes of this escalating crisis. I guess the two things we can do is pray for the safety of our school kids and to vote for people who want to be part of the solution. We have to do something! In the sermon on Sunday, Pastor Mary Beth used scripture from 1 Corinthians 12 to teach us about spiritual gifts. We learned we are all different and our differences are a good thing. Each of us is valuable and our gifts are worth celebrating. Let’s do what we can to make the world a better place! We hope to see you on Sunday! Blessings, Cris

Upcoming Events The Ad Board will meet tomorrow, January 18th at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. We will have communion just on the Sundays when our pastor is here at PUMC. Hi Everyone! January 16, 2025
Have you noticed that our daylight hours have been getting longer bit by bit? That’s the promise of spring. January has been pretty mild so far and I’m OK with that. I received the results of the VFW Voice of Democracy contest from Caleb Smith. Out of over 400 contestants, Caleb was awarded with 4th place! He received a plaque, a backpack, a jacket, a certificate and $200. Excellent job Caleb! We are proud of you. You can look forward to a delicious meal after church on Sunday, January 26th. The UMM will be serving up chili and baked potatoes with all the fixin’s. Put that on your calendar and plan to attend. There will be a basket for a free will offering. The Love INC fundraiser this year will be at the Payette Nazarene Church on Thursday, January 30th at 7:00 p.m. The speaker will be Payette’s own Indy Car Driver Sting Ray Robb. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Pastor Mary Beth started student teaching this week. She has been placed with a third grade teacher at Payette Primary School. She won’t be in the office or at the coffee shop at her regular times but you can still contact her and make an appointment to visit with her. She will still get her work accomplished for the church and will be a very busy person. Keep her in your prayers. Pastor Jim Hardenbrook stopped by late last week to drop some books off for Danny Crego and shared the news that he and Pam sold their home in Weiser quickly and are moving to Virginia this week. They will spend winters in Virginia and summers in Alaska and will be close to their kids and grandkids in both places. Please pray for safe travels for Pam and Jim. They were a big part of us for several years and we wish them the best! And now for some prayer requests. Jana Schaffeld was in Nashville with her sister and friends last week and fell down some stairs. She broke several ribs and her arm and is still in the hospital in Tennessee. She will return when she is well enough to travel. Keep Jana in your prayers as she heals from this injury. I have an update from Connie Jones about her dad Garry. First, she says she has felt our prayers and really appreciates them. She is a lot calmer now than before. Since her dad has been on hospice care he is feeling so much better. He’s in less pain and is sleeping better. He is even walking to the barn and helping with the chores! If he continues to improve, he might go off of hospice care. Keep praying for Garry, Connie and the rest of the family. My sister Carolyn had a scare this week. When she woke up, her heart was racing and she was out of breath. My daughter Tess was on her way to her house to visit so she took her to the ER. They got her right in, did tests on her and she is just fine! She might need a medication change but nothing else. I’m thankful that Tess had a cool head and took care of her. Please keep Carolyn in your prayers. Dalyce asked us to keep praying for David’s brother Ray. He has been battling cancer for a while now. Lyna Wilkins has been sick for a couple of weeks now. She is feeling better but still has a deep, lingering cough. Keep Lyna in your prayers. She asks us to pray for her cousin George who was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and will also will have a thyroid biopsy this week. Keep George and his wife Leslie in your prayers. Tony and Roxanne Irwin are visiting Roxanne’s kids in Florida this week and will be traveling home next week. Pray for them to have a wonderful, warm time and safe return to us. We have to keep praying for the folks in southern California! They are going through devastating times. As a retired teacher I always think of the kids first being without homes and schools. If you’d like to donate money for relief, UMCOR is a wonderful choice. You can count on the fact that every dollar you send will be spent correctly. Just write a check to our church, write UMCOR California on the memo line and we’ll get it to them. I’m going to end this letter with a feel-good story. Since he was a kid, Brandon Baumler has always helped us decorate and undecorate the church at Christmas time. He loved climbing up and doing the high stuff and his mom Michelle let him. Who knew we were training him to be an arborist???? So, this Sunday his beloved Denver Broncos were playing their game during church so what did he do? He came down before church started and took down most of the decorations and all of the high ones! What a guy! We appreciate you Brandon! Have a wonderful week and we hope to see you at church. Blessings, Cris Payette United Methodist Church

Happy New Year to you all! I hope this new year will be happy and healthy to you all. On Sunday, we had a surprise leader for our service. Danny Crego wasn’t able to make it to church and our own Lyna Wilkins stepped up to lead us along with Carmen Kumagai’s help. They did an excellent job. We appreciate you both! With the holidays behind us we will start having meetings again. The Finance Committee will meet on Tuesday, January 14th at noon in the fellowship hall. The Ad Board will meet on Monday, January 20th at 7:00 p.m. Ken will phone in from Arizona. Everyone is invited to these meetings. We have some prayer requests this week. Ron Warzyn’s sister-in-law Terri Warzyn has COPD and has been in the hospital with pneumonia. Please keep her on your prayer list. Joyce Whittet’s son Dennis recently had a stroke. He is home now and is doing better but keep Dennis in your prayers. Joyce’s great grandson Weston has been in the hospital with stomach problems. Keep Weston in your prayers. We heard from Laura Tompkins that Nick was able to call on Christmas Eve and reported that Basic Training is hard but that he is doing fine. Keep Nick in your prayers for a few weeks. Ken and Kathie Phelps have made their way to Arizona for the rest of the winter. We will miss them and envy them at the same time. Teresa Beer made a promise to herself that if BSU was in the Fiesta Bowl again, she would get there somehow. She did! She rode a fan bus with 50 ish strangers and made it just fine. She is home now disappointed with the outcome but I’m sure she’s proud of the Broncos. Please pray for all the victims of the attack on innocent people in New Orleans early Wednesday morning. Some are grieving losses and some are trying to heal both physically and emotionally. Keep these folks in your prayers. Keep praying for these folks: Ed Parsons, Lis Williamson, Irene Jeffries, Lexi, Meegan, Megan, Grace Hammon, and Jackie. We also have a praise this week. Carmen and Dale Kumagai’s son Cory is visiting this week and everyone is excited about that especially Marcy! We will have birthday cake after church on Sunday!
